It's, um, green.... (WAAAAAY TMI)

Okay, in a fit of goofiness, my wife and I bought a big box of Lucky Charms[sup]TM[/sup] this past weekend, and ate the whole box. Yummy? You betcha ya.

Here’s the thing. During my morning constitutional on Monday, my poo was, er, green. And not an “earthy” green, I mean a vibrant, neon green. Like this smiley -> :stuck_out_tongue: (which is a face I did not make at the time).

Anyone else ever have this happen? I’m assuming it’s some sort of chemical reaction to the marshmallowy goodness of the Lucky Charms[sup]TM[/sup], but it was a bit disconcerting.

BTW, I purposely made the first paragraph vague for the “hover previewers” to make them come in here.

My son, who is five, often has such problems when he’s eaten heavily dyed foods.

I have done a bit of web searching on green poo, but mine was a more earthy green. In that case, aparently, some of the bile or other intestinal digestive juices are greenish in color when they enter the digestive track and turn to brown as they go along. If the intestines are moving along at a good clip, the fluids retain more of their green color as they have less time to ‘develop’.

In my case, green poop = fast poop.

FD&C Blue #1, baby. The portion that’s indigestible looks bright green at the end of its trip through the intestines. And it doesn’t take a huge amount to make a noticeable color change …
