It's Wet and Wild in the MMP: old

So on the night heaving, I was doing the clerking, as opposed to yesterday where a lady who had no clerking experience and didn’t know typing or 10 key was doing it, while I was tossing empty bags down a slide. Which considering that I as trained a s a clerk somehow makes sense. The Preload sort was kinda short, but considering I specialize at finding lost packages and getting them to their package car, I still had decent FT hours on a short PT day. Plus, Cuba Libré and chili.
Also, scuttlebutt is they may run a shift on 12/24, to get out the last minute Christmas stuff. Which I’d be fine with, because. A. The CBA says a seventh straight punch is double time. B. I’d still be home in time for Christmas Eve Brunch cocktails before the Packers/Panthers game.

Well if she doesn’t know, how can she have cocktails tomorrow to celebrate the Battle of Ayacucho? :cocktail: :peru:

{{{{hippie}}}}

2 drink minimum.

I think that is also some of the appeal of things like Hello Fresh. “I’ll never used canned leeks outside this recipe, so I’d never try it unless I only have to pay for the quarter teaspoon I’ll actually use”

Howdy Y’all! Outside of makin’ and eatin’ sup along with the cleanup afterward, ‘tis been a highly slothful day. Afternoon temps were in the high 60s, so we sat out on the back porch and day drank. Scurvy and malaria were actin’ up, so we had three medicinal gin 'n tonics each. Gotta keep 'em in check with preventative medicine after all!

Hippie so sorry about the heart issues. Prayers shall ascend for a speedy recovery.

Evening all, got 50% of my swimming in (I usually divide it into 2 equal sections with whirlpool time in-between), the pool is usually busy on Fridays, so not unexpected. Have thought about going back over tonight to do the rest, but will resist the thought…I’ll have 5-6 hours of indoor soccer tomorrow, so that should burn up any calories I didn’t lose. Have consumed my Big Bowl Of Sallit for dinner and sloth will occupy the rest of the evening.

One good piece of news, the new power cord has brought my laptop back to life, so that will be nice to have along.

Dicey, sorry about no fresh bagels, but sounds like you made it a good day anyway. And those Swiss/German treats have me salivating like one of Pavlov’s dogs…

FCM, I guess you and FCD just have to face it that some people you can’t help; hope the professional can get through to him before it gets worse.

I don’t cook much at home, so going out and having to cook does not hold any enchantment for me. Besides, if I didn’t like it, who the heck am I going to blame?

I’m being nosy, but do you have a history of heart trouble in the family? My father had a heart attack when he was 53. but he survived due to modern medicine and heart treatment methods. His father had also had a heart attack and died at 53. and his older brother had heart issues. My uncle died before he had surgery, he’d been putting off surgery.

I hope you get better, If possible keep in touch with us. Thinking good thoughts, and will say a prayer for you.

I grumble a lot about living in rural trumpland, but do have to admit that there are some really amazing people out here. I understand it all started with one grocery store stocker who couldn’t stand the food waste.

Holy cow about the key saga. I’m glad you made it through in the end!

I’ve been hearing about other programs like this one in different areas of the country. I approve and hope they influence even more people to get involved. Small acts can make big changes.

I do need to remember to order a couple of boxes of handwarmers for them. I’ve heard them saying how much they really appreciate having one in their pocket when they are standing out in the snow to load boxes into cars.

OK, done. It isn’t cold enough that they will want them now, but I’d rather they got them early. (I LOVE that I can order and ship things anonymously, there is no reason for them to know who does this every year.)

GG still just has to pounce blanket covered feet. He knows he shouldn’t but sometimes he just can’t help himself. He’s almost three. He’s going to outgrow it soon. Isn’t he?

Hubs amazed my this year. He addressed all of his cards last week. Usually he sends after-Christmas cards because he is a grown man and I refuse to do it for him. This is actually something I blame his mother for, she always took care of holiday and birthday greetings and cards for everyone and he expected me to do that as well. Bless her heart, the recipients probably got better gifts and more timely cards, but I’m just not that accommodating.

A neat interweb tip I use is to crack the eggs into a baking dish and then bake them for about 21 minutes at 350F. Once they are done, you can just whack them up with your mezzaluna along with whatever it is you put in egg salad. It is so much easier than peeling all of those eggs.

You can’t help someone who doesn’t want help. I’m not sure if your BIL even knows what it is that he wants, but it is pretty obvious that he isn’t happy with how things are now. I hope he outlives your MIL, it would be horrible for her to lose him too.

Oh, I was outraged, MIL had lovingly knitted a bright colorful sweater for me and those losers thought it was ugly! Humpf! When I shared my outrage with her, she promptly went out and bought me the ugliest, gaudiest, most sequin covered sweater in the world with battery operated blinking lights. The next year I wore that and entered in the ugly xmas sweater contest. Wanna guess who didn’t even come in third? Bitches one and all, LOL!!!

And that’s what I was missing! Of course a multi-home building would have different fire codes than a single home would. I’ve had several friends who have owned two story homes who complained about how hot the second story was, but of course their homes weren’t built like an apartment building. Thanks for the explanation

I hope your purse search wasn’t the reason you couldn’t stop the assassination.

You are on a writing retreat. Write now, walk later.

You do have your priorities right!

Every so often we will get Hello Fresh bags in the surplus boxes. I hate them, the package waste is horrible. Even the whole veggies are individually plastic wrapped. Plus, they always seem to be missing one thing but having a different unrelated thing included. If I can’t give mine away, I usually just end up parting them out.

I am so happy you were able to get on top of the problem! I’ve not felt healthier since hubs started making gin.

I am still writing now. Too dark now to walk, but I’m making good progress on this section, which has had me stuck for several days. I did walk in circles around the living room when my mother called.

That counts!

Keep it up, your writing is important work, don’t let us distract you!

:star:
good on ya

Yes, it’s delicious; (otherwise we wouldn’t have driven 110 miles roundtrip just for dinner). Hubs also bought a quart of chicken chili to bring home and I bought a highball glass for him for Christmas.

{{hippie}} I will remember you in my prayers; please keep us updated when you have time.

Yes, she’s wonderful. We met briefly with her today in office; she answered a few questions and gave us both a big hug; she will be the attending post-op nurse in the hospital. Then the pre-op nurse needed to vampire Hubs so his blood could be sent for special testing. We meet with the transplant Dr and dietician on Tuesday then Hubs goes into hospital on Thursday to have a port inserted into his chest. Then he’ll have 6 days of chemo to kill his immune system. The bone marrow transplant will be on Dec 21. Thanks for asking.

Mrs. L.A. wanted to go to The Black Cat for dinner tonight. I cringed at the expense, but she’s my wife after all. We started with two oyster shooters each (hers with vodka). She had the Frisée Lardon Salad for dinner, and I had the Black Cat Signature Burger with a side salad. She’d ordered a couple of Manhattans while I was parking the car. She ended the meal with two (plus a crème brulet for dessert), and I had three. And to top off the nice dinner… She paid for it!

If you’re anywhere close to a Wally World, I’ve found that their glasses options and the folks who fit them tend to be most excellent…and that’s coming from someone hard to fit.

Never fear! Shortly after I posted this, I broke wind massively and continued to do so for a couple of hours. I’m no stranger to intestinal gas, given my high fiber diet, but, yeesh! Lack of farting can cause that much pain? :stuck_out_tongue:

Once upon a time, a couple of friends and I left Wabash, IN and went to Sault Ste Marie for pizza on a Saturday morning. Yes, there was alcohol involved (but the driver was sober).

I’ve had a heck of a day! Since I felt better, I suited up Nelson and we went to Tullahoma for an ordered Xmas gift. It was a lovely day for a mostly rural drive. When I went to get in the car in the afternoon to go grocery shopping, I noticed that I had a low tire. I stopped to air it up down the street because by that time, it was going THUMP-THUMP-THUMP. No dice, it was flat and wouldn’t take air.

I called the Hyundai roadside assistance, which, even out of warranty, will give you a discount on service. They sent AAA out for a $65 service call and he couldn’t get the tire off to put the donut on (gee, thanks !@#$ing locking lug nuts!). So I had to call Hyundai back to send a tow truck. While waiting for the first guy, I had called Discount Tire and set up an appointment for tomorrow to replace both front tires.

Three hours and two phone calls later, no tow truck, so I cancelled and told the to do chargebacks on both service calls. I called a local tow truck (and he charged less money than even subsidized service did), he towed me to Tire Discounters (DT was closed by then) and I got two new front tires put on within an hour of them closing for the evening. They even removed those !@#$ing locking lug nuts from all of the wheels and replaced them with standard at my request.

Now, I’s tahred and want to go to bed.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Yaay metalmouse for a productive day and futsal tomorrow.

And hoorays to doggio for once again proving that your management has no idea how to deploy their workers to best effect. And for a Cuba Libre and chili; a meal fit for the gods.

Oh yeah. I once had a 2-story plus finished basement, and even with two separate HVAC units & thermostats, managing the airflow between floors to try to avoid 50F in the basement and 90F on the top floor was a PITA. I ended up hanging floor to ceiling curtains in the stairwell trunks; it’d easily be 10F different on one or the other side of that heavy velour drape. Had the house been more open-plan where I couldn’t have sealed off almost all the convective flow, I’d probably have sold the place in frustration and moved.

This is no fun, but know we’re all here pulling for you both. This too will be history soon enough. Major {{{hugs}}} to you both.

It doesn’t get much better than that. Even if you do have joint accounts.

Locking lug nuts are a crime in themselves. Damn few wheels get stolen, but one heck of a lot of drivers have no idea they even have locks, nor any idea where the special key-socket is. Which socket is always kinda flimsy & flaky and may not be able to remove the lock when you need it.

I always insist on plain ordinary lug nuts. For all the reasons you just experienced so painfully. Other Mumpers might check this for their own car(s). But glad that all is well that ends well.

You’ve certainly earned being tahred after all that trouble with tahrs.

As to me …
Our dancing events were good, but long. After 3 hours standing in heels at the library before even starting the dancing, Her Ladyship’s legs were about done by the end. A nice meal was had afterwards capped off with a chocolate cheesecake of which I ate 3 bites, she had a small slice, and about 2/3rds of the serving came home for tomorrow and the next day. They cut desserts generously at that joint.

Now home I had a hot eggnog less rum to offset the evening cool eating outdoors in a bit of light breeze. Like red sleeping is next on my agenda too.

Cheers all! The weekend awaits us all!

We don’t.

no as long as something moves under a blanket on the floor it is fair game so said my former elderly cats

yes… believe me I know from experience …although thinking my dissolving gallbladder was just bad gas almost killed me

I’m sorry to hear about your heart hippie. Good vibes and :people_hugging: for your surgery.

same from me … I know I’m going to have to go in for something similar one day …

Now where’s the cocktail version? Probably would be cheaper to go to a bar and there would be less waste.

I don’t think I’ll ever catch up.

Since my feet are safe, I’ll say I hope not. GG stories are good for the soul.

Early Christmas present. Hope all goes better than expected. :people_hugging:

Flyboy that all sounds so yummy.

red Those locking lug nuts seem to be more trouble that they’re worth. At least you’re back in business fairly quickly, even though unexpected expenses are no fun.

Today is grocery shopping, a walk with hubby, and get the Christmas decorations out of the boxes and put on the walls/tables/etc.

Need to remind myself to stop at the glasses place at the mall. The coating on the frame of my glasses is starting to chip off, and it looks bad. The lenses are fine, so I’m hoping I can just get another pair of the same frames. They are only 3 years old, and I can find them online - just not at the place I went to.

Guess if I want to do grocery shopping, I gotta get off the couch.

Happy Saturday!

Goood Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 55 Amurrkin out and mostly clear with a predicted high of 74 and partly N.O.S. TWPTB say we will have rain/tstorms/apocalypse tomorrow. We shall see. No biggie plans for the day although we may go to the not too shabby Chinese hog trough buffet place for N.O.L. I would like to do that and have last night’s leftovers tomorrow after we deheathenate. Outside of that, ‘twill be the usual sloth, general overall uselessness, nappage, and day drinkin’. Retired life agrees with us.

red sorry for all the tire woes, but glad you were able to get it all fixed. Yes, sometimes nuttin’ will do but a couple hours fartfest. Glad you feel better now.

JtC and Dicey The gin helps the medicine go down. So much better than a spoon full of sugar.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

Happy Saturday all! I managed to get to bed timely last night, slept efficiently, and awoke a bit before 6. Been caffinatin’ and balconatin’ ever since. The sky is light and sunrise is in a few minutes. A few puffies over the land but more cloudiness over the ocean so I’ll have maybe another half hour post-sunrise before old man Sol gets too bright to read a screen by. It’s presently 76/24 with the high planned for 81/27. A bit breezy as that cooler air we did have for a couple days sloshes back North again and the tropics push the good stuff back up to us.

Our day will have the Garish (for JtC) Christmas Sweater party at noonish and otherwise there’s not much planned.

As to y’all:
Meant to mention last night but forgot …

A trick you can try in that circumstance (if you’re spry enough) is to jack up that corner of the car just enough to get the weight off the tire. Once the tire is an inch or so off the ground, just wait for a couple minutes. The tire will often spring back into shape enough that it re-seals against the wheel and will then take air. As it springs back you may need to jack a bit more to let it keep expanding back to closer the usual round shape. It doesn’t need to be fully round, just not fully squashed.

Yes, it’s a hassle, but it’s also free. And if it works, probably lots quicker than waiting for a service vehicle. Depending on the overall situation that may be a worthwhile trade.

Even better!!

My late first wife and I were joint everything from the git-go to the bitter end. The arrangements with Her Ladyship have remained largely separate. I find it odd, but OK. If we later split up she’d have far more to gain from jointness and I’d have far more to lose. But if separate’s the way she wants it, well, resistance is (largely) futile.

The nice part about booze is it never goes stale. I recently finished a bottle of ordinary nothing-special rum that dated as best I can recall from about 1998. Tasted as good as the next bottle I opened. There’s only waste if you find you don’t like that kind or give up drinking. And neither of those things are realistic concerns for me. I can’t speak for you. Or just throw a party and leave the bottle out on the counter. It’ll disappear somehow.

Happy decorating and good luck w new specs!

Yaay for Chinese lunch! I miss that stuff.

I used to work with a guy who described one of the local buffets as “Gross Chinese”. As in “Hey everybody, it’s almost lunchtime. Who’s up for Gross Chinese?” and we all knew where he meant. That was distinct from Nice Chinese at a nearby order-by-the-plate place. With white tablecloths even.

We ate a lot of Gross Chinese in that job. It wasn’t bad, it was just, well, Midwestern sickly-sweet Chinese and lots of it. My pancreas got decrepit a few years later and I think that place had a lot to do with it.

Now some 45 minutes later and between the rising breeze and the Sun burning through the clouds, time to head indoors and sign off here.

Cheers all! To the health of all those suffering. {{Hugs}}!

Probably in his car. Not with us, that’s for sure. And he won’t be allowed to move back in with MIL, since it’s the same apartment complex. And with just SS for income, he won’t qualify for any apartment anywhere around here. Even if there are other subsidized units available, he’d have no idea how to apply. It’s all in the social worker’s hands. She knows the situation and since she’s not a relative, maybe he’ll listen to her??? Dunno. We hate to be cold, but you can’t help some people.

I talked to my mom earlier this week - I don’t think they know for sure what her breathing issue was but they’re throwing more pills at her, and I think she had (or will have) a followup appointment. I need to call this weekend. MIL is gaining weight!! She’s up over 100# again, and she’s eating more. The stuff I send to her is full of calories, and with TX SIL staying there, she’s actually having meals. Her thyroid doc reduced her dosage again due to her weight - that may have been causing some of the problems. And Kidney Doc followup this coming week. We shall see.

We’ve already told MIL not to get in a car with him. If he’s not taking his seizure meds, they could both end up dead if something happened while he was driving. Whether she listens or not is another story…

She was also talking about asking him if he wants to be cremated. Maybe I’m cold-hearted, but once he’s dead, he won’t care, and it’s certainly the smartest, simplest option, so I’d say just do it. But I don’t get a vote. I suspect FCD feels the same way, tho.

Knees are stoopit! Mine will feel like it’s getting better, then it’s not. Walking seems to help, but then so does not walking. I don’t know what to do, but I’m absolutely not going to the orthopedists in this county. I hate their practice, and the Dr who did FCD’s second knee was a capital-B witch! I refuse to see her. Sadly they’re the only practice in the county. Maybe I’ll look in Waldorf if it doesn’t get better soon.

I had a good sleep, tho. Everyone will be here in 3 hours or so for lunch, then we’ll caravan across the bay to the train display. Unfortunately, we don’t have a vehicle that will accommodate 5 adults and 2 car seats, so 2 vehicles it will be, At least that way, on the way home Daughter can make her own schedule.

I need to remember to turn off the pellet stove before we leave. It’ll cool down and I can clean it out when we get home. There’s a good bit of ash accumulated, and I should vacuum as much as I can that didn’t fall into the tray. And, of course, the glass is filthy - so I have all that to look forward to.

And tomorrow, we’re getting our RSV shots. Apparently, it’s running rampant in this county. And this way, if we should have any effects, we’ll be over them well before the holidays. And before our cruise. And before next weekend when we take MIL to Indiana - there’s something to look forward to… At least it’s not as long a drive as going to Ocala was. Hope the weather cooperates.

And so begins my day. Once FCD awakens, I’ll hit the shower, dress, and make sure I’ve got everything ready for lunch. Onward!

Happy Saturday!!

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s 34F, dark, and partly cloudy outside. The high temp is expected to be around 41F, and we’ll have rain, locally heavy rain at times, throughout the day. The rain starts later this morning.

We had a brief respite from the rain yesterday, and the sun even came out while I was running my errands. I got all my errands done, though, so that was nice. The shortest and easiest part of the errands was sending my Amazon package back via Amazon Go. I was in and out of the store in less than three minutes. I got my hair done-did, drove back out the opposite way to Amazon Go, then headed back north and went to PetSmart to return the crate pads. And, of course, since I was in there, I just had to get more stuff for the pups. After PetSmart, I drove west to Costco and picked up puppy chow and some other items. One of the items was a combo garbage and recycling stainless steel kitchen garbage with a step pedal to open and close the lid. After Costco, I drove east to Jersey Mikes, and then I drove south to head home. Picking up the garbage/recycle can at Costco saved a trip to Home Depot or Lowes.

Anyway, got home, had lunch, played with the pups, took care of some other minor chores.

kittenmitten, I am sending my very best to you and your husband. I hope everything goes smoothly. I will continue to keep you both in my thoughts.

dicey, I miss the Christmas goodies packages my Oma used to send from Germany. I happen to love Elisen Lebkuchen with the Oblaten, and while I can get some from Amazon, if I order early enough, what I can get is limited, and the packaging sucks. Also, God knows how old it is. I ordered some in November, with the idea of giving some to my mother, and the packages arrived squished entirely because they didn’t put the cookies in boxes. They stuck cellophane-wrapped rounds in a paper envelope, which was probably smashed by other boxes so all my lebkuchen were crushed. I also miss many of the other Christmas goodies from the Christmas Market.

There is a German deli not over in Lakewood, where I could get some, but they sell out very early and the good stuff is usually gone by now.

The pups have their vet visit today, and I’m going to see if I can get the vet to clip their little nails. They’re getting sharp! There will also be shots.

Other than taking the pups to the vet, I’ll probably take care of some laundry, along with general house tidying, and try to drag out the tree too. I’ve got to make it a little bit Christmasy in here.

Well, time to finish my second cup of coffee and get on with my day. It’s almost feeding time for Buster and Maisie.
