It's Wet and Wild in the MMP: old

Morning all. Indoor Soccer (futsal) starts today at 9am and I’ll probably be in and out of there until 5pm or so, they have over 300 kids from 4-18 registered so lots of activity today. Have had an Instant Breakfast and will duck in and out to forage for nourishment as the day goes on. At least they gym has a bathroom so water can stay off for most of the day. Rain today and tonight will bring in cooler temperatures, going to get near 70F today, but the high tomorrow is only supposed to get to 48F.

Have read all but absorbed only a bit, so yeas, cheers, boos, and hugs in copious amounts to whoever needs them. Oh, and..

Preach it. Mine feel great until I just happen to twist them a certain way they don’t like and

Happy Saturday!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, towels and jeans (from yesterday) folded and the rest of the laundry in the dryer. The only thing that I’m leaving home for today will be a grocery run and maybe take Nelson to the dog park.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s been a pleasant 9c/49f with a predicted high of 11c/52f, and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “Don’t like this fucking weather? Give it a minute, it’ll fucking change.” True enough - I heard rain when I woke up in the night, it was drizzly first thing, then sunny for a bit, and then windy.

Busy day so far, I was up reasonably early to tend to the mogs, then went to the gym for a couple of hours. Back home for a change of clothes and a restorative cuppa, then off to the hairdresser for a quick cut. Home again to collect 'im indoors, then off to town for lunch at the Good Chinese Place, do some errands and get ourselves home again. I need to make dinner soon (chilli tonight) as we need to eat earlier than usual, then get ourselves tarted up and back into town to see The Levellers tonight.

There may be a couple of drinks before and after the show…although I’m not planning on a particularly late night as I have stuff to do tomorrow. Also, tomorrow evening we’re off to have a fancy dinner at The Ivy courtesy of ‘im indoors’ AmEx card  He has a fancypants platinum card for his business that gives us a free amount to spend during the year at various places. We haven’t used this year’s allowance so we’re planning on doing that tomorrow night.

Right…better get off my backside and get dinner on the go.

Nothing plans ed for today but the gym and maybe a quick side trip to See’s in the mall for stocking stuffers. Oh, wait, the mall will be packed. Never mind.

Another atmospheric river is supposed to hit today. Hopefully I’ll be home before it pours. I went out on the balcony to water the fuchsia, as it’s still clinging to life, and it said, “What are you, kidding?” OK, a talking fuchsia would be creepy, but the soil was wet even though I haven’t watered in a couple weeks. The indoor plants need water, though, including the mother-in-law’s tongue, which only gets H2O once a month and keeps threatening to take over the apartment. I now see how it got its name. (I had a very nice MIL, though.)

red, glad you’re feeling better. My Italian grandfather used to say that every poot saves you $5 in doctor’s bills. (Today it would be $100.) Especially true in your case!

FCM, Hooray on MIL gaining weight! It sounds like she’s turned a corner.

pilot, that’s a handy tip. I’ll remember it when I get a car. Thanks! Also, I think another advantage of separate accounts is they simplify things if there are children involved and one spouse dies. That was the case when my aunt’s third husband died, anyway.

catglove, I’m praying for your husband and for you.

Well, dang, it’s raining hard now. I’ll slosh to the gym anyway. Can you drown in an atmospheric river?

I told Mrs. L.A. I ws going to make bacon and scrambled eggs for breakfast. She said, ‘I don’t want any. I’ll just have yoghurt.’ So I made some extra bacon. I took it out of the oven and put my scrambled eggs on to cook. She said maybe she’ll have bacon and eggs after all. I whipped up a couple more eggs and put them in with the ones I’d just put in for me.

I knew once she smelled the bacon, she’d want some. :stuck_out_tongue:

I made an error. I had some stuff to deliver to the gift shop, and I wanted to talk to the museum director about the boat project. The error was, I forgot that this weekend is the “It’s a Wonderful Life” festival in Seneca Falls. (Theoretically Seneca Falls is the inspiration for Bedford Falls.) So the whole town was mobbed and the director had no time. By far the busiest I’ve seen the museum. Oh well. Maybe the increased crowds will generate some sales at the gift shop.

Walmart befuddles me again. I ordered 4 cans of a herring fillet snack I’m fond of (since 2020, I have a strong urge to keep shelf-stable protein around), total a little under $8. This is normally found on grocery shelves in most stores. This was part of a more general grocery order.

They decided they needed to ship this to me - via FedEx. Nine “supercenter” locations in the Sacramento/Elk Grove conglomerate, I don’t even know how many “neighborhood market” locations, and they thought FedEx was a good move? I’m quite sure they lost money on that one, when the item probably could have just as easily arrived with other groceries I ordered the same day, that got delivered as normal.

First snow of the season!

I was on my way home from Bellingham, and the rain turned to a rain/snow mix about six or seven miles from my exit. It was all snow by the time I got to the exit four miles from mine. I went to the supermarket in the snow, and then came home. The Spousal Unit lit a fire (in the wood-burning stove insert – not like on the carpet or anything) so we have a little extra heat and a nice fire to look at. I’m glad I brought some more wood into the catio, as Wifey just put the last of what we had inside into the stove.

Weather-dot-com says it should turn to rain around 17:00, so it will be dark then.

Awww, that’s adorable. Been together awhile, have you?

Frying bacon is one of the best scents in the world. I used to tell my students, “Cologne is hit or miss. If you really want to attract people, dab a little bacon behind your ears.”

Seanette, your herring fillet snacks are in cans? My sister lurves herring in sour cream, which is sold in jars. I think there’s a kind that’s in…white wine maybe? Is that what yours is? Here I live, a mile from Puget Sound, and when she’s come out to visit, I haven’t been able to give her any. :frowning: I may have to try WalMart.

Also, I can’t see the phrase “Herring Snacks” without thinking of John Updike’s story “A&P.”

Howdy Y’all! I actually got somewhat productive today. Shockin’ ain’t it! We went to the not too shabby Chinese hog trough buffet. ’ we went to the Food Kitty cause Diet Cokes are on sale and whilst there, I bought some nice collard greens, the smaller ones that I like most. They were so purty and green! Then back to da cave where I cleaned, cooked, and once cooled down, froze said collards. There’s another thing, but I’m savin’ it for a comment down the line. Stay tuned.

MOOOOOOM there’s only so much one can do for someone. If BIL refuses to take his meds, won’t listen to the social worker, and gets kicked out of his apartment, then that will be on him. I do not blame FCD or you for takin’ that stance hard though it may be. Hope the choo choo display was fun.

Taters here’s where the next productive thing comes in. You inspired me to go to the burly butcher sto’ to inquire about a prime rib roast for Christmas feast purposes. We talked and came to a reasonable price on what feels like would feed eight people. He said he would take care of it himself and make sure it is a really great roast. He even talked to me about how to best cook it. Anywho, it will get picked up on the 21st. He told us he sells a fair amount of those for Christmas and New Year’s so it was good we came in today to place the order. I mentioned prime rib soup to OYKW and he very much likes that idea. So I guess prime rib for feast and soup for later. See, you are an inspiration! Now just have to figure out the rest of the eats.

FlyBoy you know her too well. Then again, the smell of fryin’ bacon is a siren call.

Nettie I shall have to look into herring fillet at :astonished:Wally*World :astonished:. I am intrigued.

Nellie hope you didn’t drown in the atmospheric river.

MetalMouse the rain you have today we will get tomorrow. Gonna be a soggy deheathenization tomorrow.

I referenced A&P, and provided the link, in a comment on a Facebook post recently.

Home again - LOOOOOONG drive but the train show was fun. Some pics:
Outside the event.
Lego train table
More Lego trains
And more Lego
FCD and his mom
Kids’ area
Miscellaneous
More
And others

I think any of those pics will take you to the site where more are posted. Anyway, it was nice. And after we went to DQ. While there, FCD and I were reminded that today is our anniversary - yoiks - 40 years!! We’re celebrating as we usually do - by not doing anything. My family is aghast that we pretty much ignore our anniversaries, but that’s the way we roll.

Time to assume the recline position and chill.

“Chill” was not how I expected that sentence to end.

Seriously, congrats. It’s quite an achievement and you’re still a great team, despite a few gritted teeth now and again.

These are what I buy. I like them.

They do have other flavors, I prefer the kippered.

Occasionally, I’ll pick up some herring filets at Aldi. The mango pepper ones are my favorites.

It sprinkled on and off all afternoon, so no dog park excursion. I did get the groceries, including a 7 lb bone-in Xmas ham. It just finished storming and it sounds like it’s still raining a bit, so Nelson and I will likely be in rain gear when we go out before bed. Now for some goofing off in the studio.

Evening all. Spent nearly 8 hours in a Middle School gym with kids playing soccer (did escape for some caloric refreshment at Krystal’s). Not really too active, did coach and referee some and spent time with old friends, so not a bad day. Rain is due around 11pm and will last into Sunday, knocking the temperatures down quite a bit.

FCM, great pictures, glad MIL was able to get out and enjoy it with family. And Happy Anniversary! even if you don’t celebrate it.

swampy, enjoy the anticipation of how that prime rib will taste come Christmas Day.

Flyboy, frying bacon will tempt anyone claiming to be human; enjoy the snow, it’s 64F here…

Nettie, Undoubtedly some computer decided that this was the best way to supply you, despite it being the worst possible option. Long as you didn’t have to pay the Fedex bill.

boo fae, hope the music is good. And the drinks… And that dinner sounds (and the menu concurs) scrumptious.

OK, a light dinner has been microwaved and eaten, so I foresee slothage in my near future. take care all.

I like herring filets in Dijon sauce. (Or kipper snacks. Or pickled… which I still have in the fridge…)

I didn’t, really, unless you count my Walmart+ subscription, which gets me free shipping or free delivery from the store. For $98/year (plus tips to delivery drivers), I don’t have to do a lot of lugging or deal with traffic and crowds. Works for me.

I’m going to have to go back to the supermarket tomorrow. I got a sudden urge to make salmon chowder.

We had Trader Joe’s Cobb Salads for dinner tonight. Mrs. L.A. had some buttered baguette with hers.
