I guess ::kicks can::.
Morning all. A nippy 35F right now, heading for the mid-50’s later. Rain is expected Saturday night and Sunday morning, but right now the skies are clear. Hopefully the water detection guy will be by today (P.S., he called while I was typing this and will be out around noon) and my extra fob key will be ready, so progress will be made and money will be spent. Also need to get over to the gym, need to pedal away 662 calories to make it 2,000 burned for the week (Sun-Sat) on the bike. May actually have to start eating more, not enough calories in my diet for the day.
Pilot, sounds like you and her Ladyship are really getting into the dancing thing. Sounds like both fun and a good workout to boot, keep it up.
Cat Glove, My car says to hold the key fob right on the start button if the battery dies (it also tells me if the battery is low, car is smarter than I am in some ways). And that was a smart idea about the static electricity, will have to remember that. Good idea on daughter arrival, Amtrak can be…not dependable…when it comes to arrivals.
shady, not so many Medicare calls/letters this time, maybe after a few years they give up…I hope. And sorry about the eye doctor FUBAR; mine has always been pretty prompt and not much fuss (of course I only see him every other year). Hope the glasses issue gets worked out.
Taters, ah, the old “iron fist in velvet glove” message. Concur that the more you quote the better the deflection. Hope it gets the message across.
OK, need to break my fast and be about the morning internettin’. Have a good Thorsday all.
I don’t really care either. My dad’s parents came from Sweden as did my mom’s maternal grandpa. Everyone else was born here. I’m not interested in finding anyone. Heck, I haven’t seen my first cousins since Mom’s funeral in 2011.
Today is full but boring. Allergy shots, fuds store, PT, then finishing off the night with the condo board meeting.
Morning, kids! Something something weather something something I GOT THE JOB.
They called me as I was about thirty minutes into my four-hour drive home yesterday. They’ll call me again this morning in about 90 minutes to talk salary and such, but even at the lowest end, it’s, uh… More money than I ever really anticipated making. And more importantly than that, I can get a place anywhere within the Minneapolis/St Paul metro area and comfortably commute to work… For the two days a week I’m required to be in the office. It’s work from home three days a week. I’ve been intermittently crying and just started up again - I missed the city so, so much.
I guess I’m officially in library administration now?! Not something I ever imagined for myself, but the price is very, very right. Thanks everyone for all the encouragement. <3²
I have long held that practicality is the most stylish choice! Not a maxim I always adhere to myself, as I have a weakness for flashy things, but I maintain the principle!
That sounds like an uncomfortable place to keep them… (I’ll see myself out.)
Same. My mom’s never understood why I don’t care about our genealogy. My reasoning is, they pro’lly would’a hated me anyway!
finest kind of news!! congratulations! i hope you have a wonderful new working environment with great people
Congratulations!!!
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s a dreary 6c/43f with a predicted high of 7c/44f and isolated showers. Weather app says “Rain is annoying. It’s almost as annoying as listening to your fucking co-worker chew.” It’s very dark grey and miserable outside which is what was forecast for today, there are weather warnings for floods and torrential downpours in some parts of the country too.
Niner many, many congratulations! What wonderful news, I am so happy for you
Taters there’s always someone, isn’t there? We have been doing three days on campus/two days at home for some time, and are constantly being reminded it’s not part of our actual work contracts and only a perk from the university. So it’s in our interests to make it work, to be flexible when we need to cover extra campus days or be in for meetings etc, but there’s always one person who wants it all their own way and refuses to be as flexible as everyone else.
Mooooom lights displays and train displays sound like excellent ways to pass the time, and hopefully MIL will get some pleasure out of being sociable.
Today has been a good enough day, but not exactly productive. I have sent one of my minions home (she has some serious personal/family issues to deal with) and am busy trying to persuade her to work from home, or not work at all, for the next couple of weeks. Her home situation is causing her much stress and anxiety, she kept it all to herself for the last two weeks and has only just talked about it, she really does not need to be here, and she would be far better off at home. Thus I put my Good Boss hat on and sent her packing!
I’ve been out for lunch at the fancy staff restaurant with my other team, that was good as I’ve not seen most of them for quite a while. We had a proper turkey dinner with all the trimmings, and followed it up by a couple of rides on the merry-go-round. As part of the festive celebrations (and for the December graduation ceremonies), there’s a carousel on campus. Well, who could resist letting their inner child out again?
Back to the office to attend a meeting on my manager’s behalf since she’s on leave until Monday, did a follow-up action from that already, and sent her an update on the proceedings. Now counting down the minutes until it’s hometime!
My own version of French toast for breakfast this morning. Better than 99% of the French toast you’ll ever have.
The wife likes to celebrate most holidays, regardless of origin, so we’ll be having latkes for dinner (and matzoh ball soup, if we can find it anywhere).
Gotta hit the exercise machines today to keep the knee limber. Otherwise, no big activity planned.
‘May you live as long as you want, and never want for as long as you live.’ - Irish toast
‘Cinnamon, eggs, bread, and maple syrup.’ - French toast
For 39 trailers it sure seemed slow. Alos, I like working in a building where you can see your breathe.
Congrats!
Yay, Niner!!! Congrats!
Niner, Great News and Congratulations aplenty!!!
Never cared for French Toast, don’t care for most anything with eggs, although I have mellowed a bit regarding cackle-fruit in my old age…may have to give it a try again.
boo fae, hope things get straightened out for your employee/minion.
Been waiting around the house in sloth mode for the water detector wizard to make his way here. Probably should sort my papers in their proper folder, I keep my year’s records in a small box of folders and then they go in the proper file cabinet. Usually end up just tossing the paperwork on top of the box until it gets to high and then file all of the stuff. But that’s as constructive as I get.
Onward into slothage.
Monkey had some interest, then wandered off.
I put his furry ball (singular) into the baggie of catnip.
Then I tossed it again.
He lost his tiny furry mind.
… and, eventually, his single furry ball.
ETA: it’s probably under the fridge, or down the basement steps.
I had to hand-wash dishes that wouldn’t fit into the dishwasher. The water wasn’t scalding, as it was with the previous heater. I called the plumber and he said the heater is preset at the factory for 125º, and told me I’d have to set the thermostats in two places. I asked him about an instruction manual, and he said it was taped to the side of the heater. I couldn’t find it at first. When I did, I found it was underneath the lower earthquake strap. Too much trouble to get to right now. But I do want scalding water.
Done with kidlet-wrangling till Moanday afternoon - Roxy has a dentist appt so I’ll keep Tobias for SIL. Because I’m nice, dammit. And he was too sweet today anyway - he wouldn’t go down for a nap, so I rocked him on my lap and he slept for about an hour. Is there anything cuter or cuddlier than a napping toddler? Even if it did almost put my arm to sleep…
We’re taking MIL and TX SIL out to supper tonight at Texas Roadhouse. I made her a batch of broccoli-rice-chicken casserole for her fridge/freezer because I’m nice, dammit. It wasn’t exactly her recipe since I didn’t have any CheezWhiz and I shredded some colby jack instead. But I think it came out pretty well.
After supper, there will be chillage. And so ends my day.
cheeze whiz? That’s a new one for that recipe… I guess I could see it if you wanted a nacho cheese flavor but if one wanted that you could just get a jar of Tostitos dip if you wanted to cheat or peppered cheese if you wanted the real …but just plain ? if I tried that I’d get thrown out of the kitchen
I’m so happy for you. You are going to have such a great life now that you have finally found your place! Congrats!!!
I am meaner than you, I figured it was a pet that got too big for the idiot “owner” to live with anymore and was released.
It is still very sad.
They freeze very well and you can pretty much put anything you want into them. I do like to use cream instead of milk for the egg mixture because I think it makes them fluffier.
It is a wonderful program, the fresh produce is offered to food banks first and then the leftovers are handed out to anyone who shows up to get a box. Anything left after that goes to the Future Farmers of America and 4H parents for their kids to feed their livestock. The last numbers I heard had the program saving 90 tons of food from the landfills last year.
That is odd…I would have expected to find good bagel shops world wide and especially in a country known for their rich dairy offerings. Bagels are basically just cheese delivery systems after all!
Wow, bummer! I’ve only gotten a few mailings this year, last year was horrible. I hope they leave you alone soon!
Back in the day, I curated the county’s recordings. This included all of the old books of recordings from the settlement days. We had regular visits from a couple of professional title searchers but most of them were doing family histories. I could see how it would become a very intriguing hobby but not so much for the results but for what you found on the way.
One woman was thrilled to learn that her great, great aunt (a spinster woman) traded a two horses (one a paint, I don’t remember the other one) for a piece of land.
We pulled the fridge out a couple of weeks ago and were very surprised to not find any furry balls under it. OTOP, the linen closet almost always has a few hiding in the back.
I’m glad he, and you, had fun!
Today was Tai Chi and our instructor gave us another move. She’s trying to take us up to intermediate work because it is better for our balance. I’m perfectly happy to be a beginner forever, gosh darnit!
–Paw?
Yes, we are talking cats after all, LOL!!!
oh and congrats niner welcome to what passes for civilization in the American arctic Circle are igloos cheap up there ?
as a So Cal LAC desert rat I freeze at anything under 60 degrees yeah did mom pick the wrong place to try to keep warm during the winter lol …
