iTunes/iPod problem after hard drive crash

I lost my hard drive to a nasty virus, and am slowly putting things back together with my backups.

iTunes is giving me fits, though. Even though I’ve restored my iTunes library and reloaded iTunes onto the hard drive, it refuses to recognize my library, saying the library it has (consisting only of the tunes I actually downloaded from iTunes less than half a dozen) is the legitimate library and that I’m trying to sync it to a different library. The only solution it offers me is to wipe my iPod of all those CDs I put on it laboriously and replace it with what iTunes says my library is, not what my music files say it is.

iTunes has been less than helpful in sorting this out.

Anyone out there with good orderly direction for me?

OK, never mind. I figured it out. I had to add the files back in to iTunes by selecting “file” then selecting “add folder to library”. It smartly added my files back to iTunes and allowed me to add to m iPod.

I’ll ask mods to close.
