I have about 40 Bob Dylan albums loaded into iTunes and nicely sorted. Within my iPhone, though, they’re a mess. It lists all songs under a single album.
I did a good amount of messing around with the sort, artist name, album artist, etc. options to no avail.
I finally said screw it, I’ll simply delete all albums from iTunes, sync the phone to get rid of them there, then re-load each album, then re-sync. That can’t fail, can it?
Except that, after I deleted all the albums from iTunes, when I go to sync, about 50 seemingly random Dylan songs remain on the phone. These songs are nowhere in iTunes.
How can I clean my Dylan slate and start anew when sync doesn’t seem to sync?
If it listed all the songs under a single album make sure the ‘Album’ field is specified and correct in each song file’s tag info in iTunes. Depending on how it was imported into iTunes it sounds like they’re not (or possibly blank). Note that you can select multiple files in iTunes (i.e. all the songs for a given album), right click, select Get Info, and edit the ‘album’ field to make sure they’re right.
You have to get everything right in iTunes first, you can’t edit the tag info on the iPhone itself. In fact, all you can do on the phone is play the song file or delete it*!*
