iTunes question - transferring tracks to memory stick

When I transfer tracks from my iTunes music library to a memory stick, they show up okay but only the track name and size appears in the stick’s directory. So, for example, the artist’s name doesn’t appear. That’s a bit of a hassle for me since it’s often the case that it’s only the band’s or singer’s name I recognize when I’m scrolling through the list of tracks (i.e. I often don’t know the song titles).

Is there any way of making sure the artist’s name gets transferred to the memory stick along with the track name? (and, of course, that information, along with lots of other stuff, is listed when the track displays on iTunes. So it’s not like it’s not available)

Thanks!

iTunes keeps track of the artist name and album name by putting it into folders. Thus, “Taxman” by the Beatles would be kept as “<main folder>\The Beatles\Revolver\Taxman.m4a”

IF you keep the file structure, the information will show up when iTunes reads the memory stick.

Ah! Thanks, much appreciated. I’ll definitely give it a try.

I think it is much simpler than that. Most of the information about an MP3 or m4a or m4b is kept in some headers in the file itself. The directory structure is just for user simplicity but is not actually used by iTunes.

I checked a couple of tracks of each kind and I can find all of teh iTunes browser information inside the file itself.

Yes, but since you need special software to read those tags, using the existing directory structure in iTunes is probably easier.
