iTunes won't copy file to iPod

A freind sent me an MP3 via email (a completely legal file as far as I’m concerned). I was able to place it in my iTunes library but when I hook up my iPod I get an error message that the file wasn’t copied because the iPod won’t play that type of file. Huh? It’s as far as I can tell just a run-of-the-mill MP3. Any ideas?

Check the file’s properties. Most MP3s are 44.1 kHz, but if the file uses a bizarre sample rate, the iPod might not like it. It may also be a different format with the wrong extension - MPEG layer 1 or 2, for example.
