I am on Home IV therapy for a few weeks (bad infection), and it reminded me of some questions I’ve had about IV pumps (hospital and home versions) for a long time.

I totally understand that the pump can tell if there is a blockage, since that would imply a lot more resistance. However what I don’t understand is how it can tell if the blockage is before the pump (between it and the bag of meds) or after the pump (between it and me). How does it tell the difference?
