I’m playing Dungeons and Dragons on friday, my group’s third session. It’s fun and all, but I’ve already had to eliminate 2 people… Just wanted to share Anyone have experience/comments/money?
I used to play that stuff heaps. I was the “DM” but tended to be quite liberal to the players. I think the 2 years I played maybe like 3 charters died, to me it wasn’t about seeing how many players I can kill, it was about having fun and accepting mass bribes for expirence/gold/favorible dice roles. Ahh yes…the life of them DM…
Hmm, the corrupt DM… That’s a very interesting concept I’m DMing, and a character already died when he opened the door into a room full of lucky kolbolds with crossbows (7 of nine hit, took him to like -12 or something). Any anecdotes from your career?
Woo-hoo gaming! Real, happy, table top, not LARP. Play on!
I can’t get a decent group together here to save my life.
Good Hunting all.
Tis’ a sad day, when a gamer must hang up his/her dice bag.
I’m getting ready to get involved in a Shadowrun game, and I’m gonna weasel my way into my brother 3rd ed. D&D game… hehehe
Medea’s Child, you wouldn’t happen to live in the Sacramento area, would you?
I hung up my “dice bag” a long time ago. Mainly because people wouldn’t play fair (three games and they have a 20th level illusionist?!) But if you’ve found a good group and they are true to the tradition…
Fun is fun. And no matter WHAT some folks say; some major babes (like me) love D and D! Have a good time, hon!
Man, I remember AD&D (first ed.). Great times. Problem when I tried to run is people who didn’t even think (Run into room with 3 doors? 2 orcs near far door? Send all armored people there(4) . Leave mage and thief standing where they came in. Attracted by battle sounds, ogre walks in third door. Mage and thief get sqooshed. Meanwhile 1 fighter and cleric never got to orcs, too crowded, they just watched. Not my fault they’re idiots.)
Actually been talking about trying to get a game up again in a chat room - hoping…
and no, it doesn’t make me a devil worshipper.
Oh no, someone put marks on 7of9’s lovely body? he’ll pay… Oh wait, this isn’t a star trek thread, nevermind.
I’m having a two person group today, plus my fancy-dancy monk NPC that’s help them along the way. I hope they can get through more that one room in an hour.
Oh, the ranger had a hilarious weapon to use against skeletons–the poor thief:). He took out the last skeleton, but took 4 damage from the fall (onto a pile of protesting bones).
I started a group 21 years ago, with just a Player’s Handbook.
One guy chose the name ‘Bishop Luigi’ for his cleric.
It said in the manual that accents could add to the atmosphere, so I suggested he spoke in an Italian accent.
He got miffed and left. (Quickest ever ‘death’? - we hadn’t even finished rolling characters!).
The group gets started. Down a flight of stairs, into a main corridor, with a side corridor. They leave two people to guard it, and set off. I get a note from one of the guards. ‘Can I kill the other guy when he’s not looking, and take his stuff?’…
In our third dungeon, still with 1st level characters, the new DM put Elric of Melnibone’s life-stealing sword in. We were a little nervous about touching it…
I’m still playing regularly, and even teach the game at my school. We won the National Schools Championship last year, and went to GenCon. 30,000 of the nicest folks you could ever meet.
Now where’s that Holy Water gone…
I have been playign for 18 years now …
got tired of the T$R money machine but I did get dragged back into it with WotC’s newest rendition. I play once a week now with some buds. Fun stuff …
I had a two player session last night, and the players are learning how to play. The ranger was knocked out by 2 javelins, and the rogue was looking dead (he was up against the 5 remaining orcs.) Then my monk intervened and took out 3 of them before getting hit (and taken down). Later, the ranger took an ogre (this guy is lvl 1) to six hp, after which my monk took him out. It’s so fun, since he does 1d8+4 and the monk does 1d6+3.
I love them. I had one guy (in jest ;)) push me into a 100 foot deep well, with spikes and posionius snakes at the bottom. Under 1st ed rules, none of that killed me.
Ah, the life of a first level character can be brief.
My group decided to try out the new edition a few weeks ago and my bard has nearly died in almost every game. Damn archers! Thankfully she’s second level now and I lucked out on the roll and doubled her HPs. Next game she might not need to be carried back to town.
On a side note, my mom used to DM back when D&D was new. When she heard my group was giving the 3rd ed. a try, she decided to get the books and read up. She must have been feeling nostalgic because she decided to get back into DMing. Tonight’s our first game with Mom in control.
When I talked to my friends at her request, their first reaction was “Your MOM???” but then they got used to the idea once I told them that she wasn’t that much older than our current DM. Still the looks they gave me at first were priceless.
Well, Tally…if there’s room in any campaign…
The Illustrious Andros was DM for a campaign years ago. This is where I truly learned the meaning of the phrase “I am GOD here!”
One first-level half-elf magic user tried a spell beyond her capability.
Her head exploded.
I played an Indian Paladin named Abu S’hi The-ad. He died (twice) and got resurrected, went blind (and then sprouted wings–ultimate irony). Gained his sight and had his wings chopped off to save the other party members–almost died. Fought his god, and went mute and had to communicate by sign language.
All this while drinkjing heavily and insisting upon using the Indian accent.
Ahh, those were the days.
Hey Byz–I reckon I can hook you up with a group in SLC if you’re interested. Give me a yell.
I’ve been playing since '83 or so. Got a 2nd edition game up and running at the moment . . . with nine (yes, nine) players. They haven’t yet gotten the idea of working as a party yet. I think someone’s gonna die soon. I’d prefer otherwise, but if it happens, it happens.
And Blessedwolf, at least she successfully cast the spell. And it didn’t fry her brain, it merely made it ooze out her ears.
I’ll never GM while drinking Thunderbird again.
We’re a large group but we could probably fit in one more before the den reaches maximum capacity.
Drop me an email and I’ll put you in touch with our ringleaders and see if they like the idea.
Our group currently games D&D and Gurps but you name it we’ll try it (if we haven’t already).
Okay, the spell was successful, but I’m pretty sure her head exploded and the Drow got splattered with grey matter and Harold said “Them Elf brains is good eatin’!”
But I may be wrong.
Tell you what–I’m moving down in a week. I’ll get my phone hooked up and let you know then. If the game is in full-swing, I don’t want to jump in in the middle. I may just wait until the next campaign.
Don’t let that bother you, our reigning DMs are masters at working new people in. One of the problems with a large group is that we game when the majority can, not when everyone can. Because of a conflict, my SO and I joined the D&D game a session late. The DM’s solution: we were delayed on the trail. Simple.
Anyway, drop me a line and we’ll talk.
Sounds good! Now if I can only find my dice…I’ll bet they’re behind the couch. Damn cats.
