I've been (falsely) accused of sexual harrassment at work. What should I do now?

Hey, Bro, in the present situation, i would say don’t speak to anyone except a lawyer! Do save the memo that was returned to you ! This is no joke! If you have the memo, and if there are any of her signature on it, when she denies ever seeing it (and one can readily assume that she will…Murphy’s law and all) you will have something of a leg to stand on. (If the company has enough money to pay you a significant bonus, then it can absorb quite a hefty lawsuit by you, methinks) Also, please do not try to solicit a friendly cohort at work. Do not repeat anything about it to anyone at work. Believe me, when the accusations do come, everything that you say will be misconstrued and twisted so that your simply saying “i wish they would stop” will come out as being a death threat. You would be surprised at how quickly the rats desert a sinking ship on the sexual harassment theme. It is the same as rape, in my book. Hard to prove, impossible to defend. Think lawyer, lawyer, lawyer. At this stage of the game YOU are the game.

…after all, how do you know that one of the parties you are talking about isn’t a member of the Straight Dope community???..

I’d talk to a lawyer, and not talk about it outside of that lawyer’s nicely panelled office.

update:

The lawyer says to indeed keep the ol’ trap shut, act like everything’s AOK, keep writing everything down, and allow my enemies to hang themselves. She thinks HR probably understands that it is not in their best interests to persue this. That’s why I haven’t heard from them after three weeks.

Very interesting! What do you think, Kristy?
