I’m not really actively looking for a new job (I do like where I work and the people I work with, for the most part), but I am keeping my options open. This morning I got a call from a headhunting agency and have agreed to an interview/meeting for tomorrow morning. He said he has a few opportunities I might be interested in.
What should I expect at our meeting tomorrow? Do I need to dress professionally for him (as opposed to during actual interviews)? How does this work; I don’t pay him, the companies using his service do, right?
Dress professionally - he doesn’t want to send a slob to his clients so you need to leave a good impression with him. He’ll interview you - more for general skills and personality than for specific fit - that is the job of his clients.
Also, he may or may not actually have “a few opportunities you may be interested in” - he may be more interested in shopping you around. But he may have opportunities sitting on his desk.
Seconded. More than likely, the headhunter is building his resume file & wants to add yours. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but just realize that this can be the case. Do not walk through the door with any expectations beyond having a conversation.
