I thought it might cheer him up!
And I’m sure it’s a comfort to her to see you as well.
I’m 38 years old, and when I’m sick, all I want is my mom to lay a cool hand on my forehead, the way she did when I was a kid. No shame in that; it’s just the way we’re made.
Get better soon!
Good luck! I hope the bitch gets what’s coming to her. Always hate to hear about bad things in my old home of Hawaii.
Best wishes in your direction, Maui Lion. Recover speedily and well!
And best wishes for Deva too.
Totally dangerous milestone tonight. Got up, used walker to get to bathroom, use toilet, clean myself, get back up and dressed, wash my hands, and walk back and sit back down on bed without nurse help. Should have waited though, in case I fell, but I made it! Woohoo! One goal closer to home!
And good to know I’m not the only one who would want my mommy right now.
aYEEEEEHHAAAAAAAWWWWWW!!!
Yes, you should have waited for the nurse just in case, but great job!! Yay for you! That had to feel great, even though it must have hurt like hell.
No worries, Moms are supposed to make us feel better. I’m nearing forty and mine will still come and stay with me through any medical escapades, though thankfully I’ve never had to go through a fraction of what you’re dealing with.
Keep on keeping on, you’re making great progress already.
Sending more sympathy your way, and total contempt for the drunk driver. Take care and heal soon.
Ugh. I hope that woman goes to jail, and loses every material posession she has. Disgusting.
Meanwhile, I hope you’re feeling better. Take it one day at a time - you’re still pretty young and you should heal up nicely I think. It will be a long haul, but worth it.
good on you! little steps become big steps, and big steps get you home.
hang in there.
It’s great to hear that you were able to get up, do business and get back down! That’s very important- after my dad’s hip replacement, that was one of the requirements of letting him go home.
Keep up the good progress, and let us know when you are home!
Jeeeze man, Sorry to hear about this.
I hope you get well soon.

Just saw this thread, and am sending healing positive thoughts your way. I can’t imagine how hard this has been for you. Keep up the good work with the physical therapy, and I hope the driver of the other car gets what’s coming to her.
Thank you everyone, it means so much to have such support from so many people. Today I almost snapped at my physical therapist, but I know she’s just trying to help me get more into shape. I cried earlier, feeling frustrated, especially since she told me I might be here another week or so.
However, the doctor came by and said once I can pee on my own (they took the catheter out this morning) and once I learn to get in and out of a car and a few more things, I can go home! Just hope my bladder will cooperate with me.
Hoping to go home sometime this week.
Holy crap. I’ll be thinking about you, Lion. I hope it’s comforting to you to be able to post about this. Be sure to keep us up to date!
Don’t beat yourself up over that. It’s one of the hazards of her job to deal with people who are angry and frustrated about not being able to do things they used to do without even thinking.
Best wishes to you and Deva.

Sorry to hear about your accident, Maui Lion, and am sending healing thoughts your way. Remember that one of the aftereffects of anaesthetic, I’ve always heard, is depression and being highly emotional. So it’s not you coping poorly, it’s probably the sodium pentothol (sp?) or whatever they used on you. Hopefully it dissipates with time.
Wow, our nice young IT guy at work was in a bad traffic accident almost the same day you were and suffered very similar injuries. I haven’t heard yet if it was a drunky who caused it. I’ll use your release time as a guide to estimate when he’s out of the hospital and count the days when he returns, because we all like him, just like we Dopers like you!
Here’s hoping your pee-pee cooperates! Yay for getting up and down without help. You’re getting closer to home every minute.
