I've Been Hit By a Drunk Driver

Rock on!

My mom said it looked…greenish. And I don’t know exactly how it looks, but she said it was more or less a little pus-y.

We’re having problems with doctors here when it comes to getting treatment for it, we may have to fly all the way to Oahu again for treatment, or take me to the ER where I can’t be turned away.

Red tape is starting to rear its ugly head…

I can’t imagine why doctors won’t see an infection like that but it needs to be seen to NOW. Go to the ER.

I was able to make it to my orthopedic doctor, who said it didn’t look infected, but took a culture swab and gave me antibiotics just in case. My therapist took one look at it and said it was something called sloth.

Apparently it’s dead skin cells and pus (ew) that had layered and stalled the healing process. I was told to wash water over it to loosen it and such. In the shower I was able to wash it away gently and without pain, but I think it’s coming back already. I might have to wash it regularly.

Some old pains I thought were done with are starting to come back, and it’s frustrating me, since it used to be pretty severe.

Slough. (sluf)

Mine went on for almost six weeks, had a vacuum dressing on the leg.

Hang in there, it will get better.

Bump.

Medical and legal updates?

I just PMed him for an update yesterday. He hasn’t logged on in over two weeks.

He may have gone back to Oahu for treatment. If so, maybe he’s not had time to log on or find a computer?

I’m sorry I haven’t been around to reply. On Feb. 14 I had to go back into the hospital for severe stomach pains. After a week of blood tests, endoscopy, cat scan, ultrasound, etc, they said they only found mild gastritis and had no explanation for my severe pain that only dilauded could get rid of.

Great, thanks doctor. At least you kept me stoned with pain medication when I needed it and kept the pain at bay.

After I was released, my mom put me on probiotic pills and active-culture yogurt, thinking that the antibiotics I had for my ankle was the cause, and it had killed off most of the good bacteria in my stomach and caused an unbalance.

I began to recover a few days later, and after another week or so, was pain-free. Sometimes it comes back, but very mildly and is gone in a day or less.

I am now also on blood-thinners, as they found clots in me from my leg. I need a blood test every two weeks; thankfully, it’s only a finger-prick.

My current x-rays show that my injuries are healing very nicely, the pins and everything are holding strong, and my ankle has, thank goodness, finally seemingly scabbed over and looks much better. I think the slough problem is finally gone. Though I can’t go back to rehab until my blood numbers stay solid and constant.

I’m going stir-crazy in here at times, again. I’m unable to leave this one room unless going to the doctor’s, basically. I feel like I’m in prison at times. Just a couple more months, just keep telling myself that.

As for legalities, someone from the lawyer’s office will be coming in tomorrow for me to sign some paperwork. I think I’m strong enough now to endure a meeting, so I’ll ask about when they want me to have a pow-wow with them in their office.

That’s great news. Glad to hear you’re over the worst of it, knock wood.

Man, you’ve been through the wringer. Glad you’re healing well and the ankle issue seems to be resolved. How much mobility are you allowed? Can you get your walker through a doorway sideways? Hang in there, you’re getting closer to the time this will all be behind you.

Basically I can move around on my walker, usually to get to the bathroom and back. I’m left confined in a small guest room outside of the main house that is only a bedroom connected to a bathroom, so there’s nowhere to go. I can’t get into the main house because there’s stairs, and I can’t go up stairs. Still on non-weight-bearing status for my right leg.

I feel like I’ve been beat up and left for dead by the wringer by this point. We joke how every Holiday since Christmas I’ve been in the hospital/sick. Here’s hoping Saint Patrick’s Day goes without a hitch. Knock on wood. …with a mallet.

Here’s to hoping you get out of the room soon even if it’s only a day. You badly need a stay in a rental you can get around in.

Hang in there!

hang in there. it is really easy to get stir crazy when you are looking at the same 4 walls. hopefully you are on an upswing now.

Maui Lion–take it slow & easy.

Get well soon.

Thank you everyone for the continued encouragement, it makes me happy to read it all.

I’ve reached the point where I’m not believing this anymore, but now something else has happened. Or is happening. I don’t know what exactly.

My lower-left wisdom tooth area is hurting. That’s right. I think the wisdom tooth wants out, and it’s making the molar next to it hurt via pressure, because my mouth isn’t that big. Or maybe the molar itself hurts too. Either way something hurts in there, and I’ll be seeing the dentist within a week or two if this doesn’t go away. I can only chew on one side of my mouth now. If God forbid I need a tooth pulled, and I’m on blood thinners as-is, well isn’t this nice.

I don’t believe this anymore, myself, by this point. Honestly, are things going to keep happening? Seriously. Someone up there throw me a bone already. Please? No more?..

Don’t ask for bone-throwing.

One of yours might come loose.

Geeze, where are the Jedi Healers when ya need em?

Tell me about it! Maybe it’s because I wasn’t really into Star Wars, that’s why they’re not coming. I should write a letter of apology and promise to watch all the movies if they come over.

Today I got a call from the prosecutor’s office. Apparently the letter they tried to mail me about this event was sent to a wrong address and got bounced back, but surprise! Tomorrow morning I have to testify before a grand jury for the criminal case against the woman that hit me.

I think how it goes is that they end up deciding whether or not that the case goes through, right? In any case, I’m sure it will, and the prosecutor said that it rarely goes onward to a jury of peers and a whole court proceeding. I’m sure she will plead guilty.

If she pleads Not Guilty, then we’ll have a whole court ordeal to go through.

Thankfully the woman will not be there, I have yet to meet her, and to meet her suddenly like this is something I’m not ready for. Not yet.

Oh, and this is funny, Dopers: I learned that on the night of the accident, that drunk hooha claimed I went into her lane. That was squished by the analyzer and the fact that we have a witness that says she went into my lane, of course, but wow. Of course now I know she claims responsibility, I’m very sure of that by what I’ve heard.

I have a cat, and a love for people. Plus I know how to fix respiratory stuff, and I’m a sweet guy too, so when you get your case settled (as I know you will), give me a call! Me and you can buy a yatch and cruise the Hudson.

You won’t regret it!

I’m a fungi!
