I've been in a bar fight

-And lost. and had my rips cracked, as well as getting a bottle broken over my head. Now I’m curious to see what this makes me. I’m shooting for 50% bad-ass and 50% idiot. I did this in China as well, so do I get extra points or deductions? I also had my shirt ripped off, and couldn’t open an eye for two days.

Well being in China does get you extra points since I assume you aren’t Chinese. I’d say that your assessment is correct. You will not be a bad-ass until you’ve won one though.

It depends. Were you protecting the honor of someone being harassed? Or did you stand on your stool and proclaim that Chinese people suck? The details are important to assess if you were an idiot…

You’re a bad-ass mother for surviving it, and an idiot for being in it. No poll option for that.

Points deducted for being in China. Half those points regained for being in the easiest place on earth to replace your shirt.

Welcome to my world.

You’re not a bad-ass for losing a bar fight, nor are you automatically an idiot for getting into one.
The reasons behind the fight are crucial.

reason=alcohol

Well, you’re probably an idiot, but don’t take it personally. I’ve seen many ordinarily calm and rational people get into bar fights when they or someone they’re having an argument with have had too much to drink.
Some cracked ribs, a black eye and a torn shirt? You came off rather well, actually.

If it played out like a scene from just about any Hong Kong action movie = awesome. Even if you lost.

If you ended up cowering in the corner squealing “Don’t hit me! Don’t hit me!” = Pansy time.

idiot seems to be winning. I feel ashamed.

Whew, I read that as cracked hips!

I have watched a bar fight from the sidelines, a few times.

I have been thrown out of a pub, bodily, by the barman (injustice! I wasn’t even drunk).

I was chatting to someone in a bar when a guy sat down with us and threatened my life. I ran away.

I’ve also been set upon by three drunks in the street when I was drunk. I lost.

I won’t vote. I think it’s a bad idea generally.

What happened?

It was almost a year ago. I was just thinking that most american men have not been in a bar fight that required a trip to the hospital. I admit it was stupid, but it was strangely macho. I feel like I can tell my nephews, “your drunk uncle nick took 3 men in a bar fight and didn’t lose a tooth!”

Got drunk, ended up in a fight? Yeah, Idiot all the way.

Too cliche and you can’t dance to it!

You are ducking on the details. Who started the fight? What specific actions led to the fight? (And by specific actions I don’t mean “being drunk.” “Being drunk” doesn’t start a fight all by itself.)

Bar fight in a foreign country where you’re a stranger? Definitely idiot, that could so easily get out of hand.

Cripple fight!

Idiot+.

Being in a bar fight, pretty much makes you an idiot. The only exception would be if it was for a legitimate reason, but then it’s not so much a bar fight as a fight that happened in a bar, since bar-fight implies drunks and some stupid reason like sports or gambling or some woman you’re both hitting on. Since you didn’t elaborate what the reason was, I’m inclined to think it’s a normal bar fight, so definitely an idiot.

And on that, getting in a fight in a foreign country is more points toward idiot. Jail may suck here in the US, but getting stuck in a Chinese jail has got to be a lot worse, especially if you’re white and don’t speak Chinese. Ditto for hospitals.

You could still be a bad ass, even if you are an idiot, if you had won over someone of equal or greater size or barely lost to someone much larger (ie, you left a serious mark on him) or possibly if you were seriously out-numbered but took some of them out. As it seems like you lost, based upon the description of your injuries and failing to claim victory or that the guy was twice your size, you are definitely not a bad ass. In fact, that would make you a wimp. Sure it’s “macho” to be a bar fight, but macho doesn’t necessarily mean bad ass; in fact, as an American, “macho” is usually a pejorative from how I’ve heard it used, as in over-the-top manly.

However, I don’t think much either way about being in a fight, since I’ve seen stuff like that happen pretty quickly out of nothing, so I wouldn’t hold the idiot or wimp for a whole lot. Instead, that you felt the need to come here with what comes across as getting beat up for starting or getting sucked into a stupid fight with drunks comes hoping that people won’t think you’re an idiot comes off as just… lame. Where’s the option for lame?

Idiot… and damn lucky!

An acquaintance took a beer bottle over the head in a bar fight. It took lots and lots of stitches (and a few staples if I remember correctly) to put his scalp back in place.
