I’ve been offered to be an entry level mechanic by someone who thinks hands down that I can do it very well by what he’s observed. Currently, I’m an IT person who is a consultant with a possible hire in the future. I’m a consultant for a very large company and basically I just support applications in a mainframe enviroment (scheduling, job recovery, monitoring, blah blah blah…).
Current Position Pros:
-
Job is very easy, mainframe stuff comes easy to me, both hardware and software wise.
-
The pay is excellent, I’m due for raise and will get it.
-
I could get hired with this company I’m with (more money, more benefits, vacation time.)
-
Time off during the week. (3 days off one week, 4 days the next week.)
-
If hired, salery will be $50,000, plus benefits.
Current Position Cons: -
This jobs sucks my ass and is not challenging enough.
-
I’m bored to tears. (I may have ADD and this current job is too repetitive for me, I need rapid change to excel as in my previous job.)
-
I work 3 days one week and 4 the next. Each day totaling 12 hrs. (37.5 hrs one week, 50 hrs the next).
-
My days start on Friday, end Sunday (End on Monday for the 4 day week.)
-
I have no social life.
-
I can’t enjoy things with my friends like I used to with a normal week.
-
All I do is sit on my ass in front of a god damn workstation and type all day and deal with people and their broke ass job errors.
Entry Level Mechanic Pros: -
I’d get the chance to be an automotive professional.
-
I’m good with cars and like working on them.
-
I’d pick it up hella-quick.
-
I’d be working with a buddy.
-
I’d have a normal work week.
-
I’d get my weekends back.
-
I can enjoy my time with friends more.
-
I’d be in fast place enviroment. Every car is different.
-
I wouldn’t be sitting on my ass and gaining weight.
-
I can go racing again.
Entry Level Mechanic Cons: -
$400 a week. That’s it.
-
Health insurance for benefits, and that’s it.
-
I’d work 50 hrs a week, every week.
What to do?
