They are tasty but they are salt and fat bombs. Literally. Given that a hungry adult man is realistically going to eat an entire 10 oz or if really hungry a 16 oz pie the fat and salt loads are just epic. I eat more than I should but when shopping even I stay away from these. I lost my mind and bought some on sale a year or so ago and ate them late at night at work when I was weak and too lazy to go out and shop. You could feel the fat and salt charging through your body after eating one. The weird thing is that they really don’t have* that *much chicken for all those calories. The pie is mostly comprised of the shortening laden crust and the gravy.
Look for four packs of Marie Callender’s pies. The individual pies are packed in plastic sleeves which have been designed for microwaving, they have some sort of browning grid over the pie. Open both ends of the sleeve and nuke 'em!
We have liked the Marie Callendar’s store-bought pot pies for years. However, the pot pies served in the restaurant are a different story.
I am a member of Toastmasters. We meet weekly at a Marie Callendar’s restaurant in Torrance, CA. I ordered a chicken pot pie once–years ago. It tasted awful. I never ordered one again. I don’t see why their boughten pot pies can be so good and the pies served in the restaurant can taste so bad.
I wanted to have a pot pie for lunch when I worked as a security guard in Downey, CA; but this was when they were not microwaveable. I decided to bake it in the regular oven at home, and took it with me; at mealtime I heated it in the microwave in the lunchroom. Boy, it was good.
Marie Callendar also has frozen pie crust that is perfect for leftover Thanksgiving dinner. Just toss in the cut up turkey, veggies, sweet potatoes, some stuffing for spice, and bake. You need to have it dense enough to serve it slices so you make the gravy goodness on the side as a pour over.
I couldn’t find the Marie Callender’s chili pot pie here. Maybe they don’t market them in Texas. BUT I did find that MC also has small frozen fruit pies. Too soon after Thanksgiving to indulge…but soon.
