I've exercised for five weeks

Yes! Five weeks of running and counting. I’ve lost about five pounds too! I also think my legs are developing some muscle. I love it! I hated exercise early in life but now I can’t get enough. Now I need to get some new running shoes.

Good work!

Now the second hardest part about starting running. Not doing too much too fast. I nearly sidelined myself for a solid month because of overenthusiasm.

Congratulations! Keep up the good work.

Congratulations!

Do your bod a favor and stay on top of your shoe situation. Good cushioning is key. I started running on some kind of old shoes, and after a month or so I was having some pain in my shins and knees. After wonking about it for a few weeks, I finally went out and got some new shoes, and I was like, hey, amazing, every step doesn’t hurt anymore! The old shoes had worn out so gradually I didn’t realize how sucky they’d gotten, but the new shoes felt soooo freakin’ gooood.

Maybe you already know, but to make sure you get the right kind of shoes for your stride, either go to a store with knowledgable sales people and bring in your old shoes so they can look at the wear on the sole, or read up on how to choose running shoes.

Isn’t that weird? I’m totally the same way. If you’d told me five years ago, “Hey, Pod, you’re going to take up running,” I would have laughed in your face. But now I’m totally into it. In two weeks, I should reach my goal of running 20 minutes continuously. The best thing about running is that it makes me feel like such a badass. Step aerobics might be a better workout, but I am a runner! Grrrr! I am mighty! (Well, almost. In two weeks I will be officially mighty.)

[sup]Ooooh-- I hate you![/sup]

Gah! Engage maturity! Engage maturity!

*I mean * yay! for you Quasimodal, good going. I think perhaps I found those five pounds you lost. That or I’ve been eating too much and exercising too little. But how likely is that? Exercise? That’s just crazy talk!

How on earth do you lose weight by counting? :dubious:

Yay on you for not getting discouraged by only losing five pounds. You’re swapping low-density fat for high-density muscle, which is going to slow the weight loss down. But, you’re feeling better and stronger and want to keep exercising, which is crucial. Yay!

So how come you lost 5 pounds in 5 weeks, and I lost 5 pounds in a year and a half? This is not fair.

I just got back into going to the gym at my local Y. I’m only going because I know that I need to get into the habit of physics exercise now, while I’m still young, or else the lack of it will come back and bite me in the ass when I’m old. The only thing that gets me through it is getting angry at myself for not wanting to do something so obviously necessary for my health. S’not the best motivation, but there you are.

I’m with you on that. I’ve just started exercising again (boxing, weights) and I’m sorta peeved that I put it off for so long and gained back lost weight.

Increase output (exercise), don’t decrease input (food).
