I've finally seen Batman Begins

And it was awesome. And yes, I’m going to go see The Dark Knight soon. Like right after I leave work soon.

Did any one else get distracted by the thought that Gordon looked a hell of a lot like Dr. Forrester from MST3K? Since I modelled one of my characters after him (Forrester), I kept getting distracted by imaginary crossovers.

You’re evil and I’m likely going to think of that when I see the next movie in this franchise.

More seriously, Gary Oldman is an ‘anonymous’ actor as far as I’m concerned: He doesn’t stand out in a movie as a person in his own right, but instead is just the character in the show. It’s the exact opposite of Al Pacino, who (at this point) is always Pacino being Pacino in a movie starring Pacino. There’s no way to see him as a character anymore.

Are you serious? Gary is playing a character lowkey. I applaud his ability and range as an actor… perhaps a sign of progress and maturity as a full fledged actor. Gary has never been indistinct in a film… except for maybe this role.

Yeah, I mean look at Oldman’s performance in Leon back to back with him in Begins

That will give you an idea of his range.

I watched it for the first time over the weekend, and by the (seeming) 5th hour, I was ready to hang myself from a bat pole. WAYYY too much “snatch the pebble from my hand, Grasshopper” time and gee, did anyone dream we wouldn’t see Liam Neeson again later in the flick? Zzzz…

To quote Casey Kasem, it was fucking ponderous.

I agree it was way too long. Since it succeeded and it was too long, its sequel “The Dark Knight” is also a too long, poorly edited mess. (Which is not to say both were not intermittenly entertaining, with some good performances. )

You’re both agreeing on this, you know.

I think he means as opposed to some actors like Morgan Freeman, who consequently plays . . . well, Morgan Freeman. Ditto Sean Connery, Al Pacino and Bruce Willis.

I disagree that the movies were too long. I think they had enough story for their (admittedly longer-than-average) running time, as opposed to some movies that just keep padding and end up losing all impact. The people in charge have a good-sized story to tell, closer to a novel than the more common short story or novella, and that takes time.

Gukumatz: You’re mostly right. I mean that when I watch Gary Oldman on screen, I see a character, not Gary Oldman. When I watch Dustin Hoffman on screen, I see Dustin Hoffman doing all of his little tics while reading a character’s lines.

Silver Tyger Girl, you’re in for a treat, I liked Batman Begins but The Dark Knight kicked it’s bat-ass!

I enjoyed Batman Begins way more than I did The Dark Knight. The Dark Knight had its moments, but it was too dark and too long.

Were you facing the screen?

The Dark Knight did seem long, but it’s the sort of movie I’d like to see more than once to catch all the details.

I’m no fan of the superhero genre so the only reason I watched this movie was to see Mr. Bale, whom I love , love, love. I’m sad to say that I think he’s the worst Batman evar and only a slightly more tolerable Bruce Wayne. And yes, I will be going to see The Dark Knight, if only to see Mr. Ledger’s performance.

I saw The Dark Knight last night. The resolution kinda dragged, but otherwise it was really good (I’m not going with perfect. I have a few nits with Mistah J that may pass when I see it again.)

Yes, yes I am. It seemed a bit better in TDK, maybe because his hair was combed.

I just have to chime in and say that Gary Oldman is a fucking chameleon. Sam Rockwell is following in his footsteps.

I thought Batman Begins was really, really good and was a good direction to go to get away from the Burton/Schumacher stuff.
With Dark Knight I was really expecting them to kick it up a notch and make a better film than Batman Begins. But they really didn’t. It was “AS GOOD” as Batman Begins. Not better, not worse.

So if you liked Batman Begins you will definately like Dark Knight. Just don’t expect the miracles that they are hyping.

Whoa. Whoa.

Worst Batman ever? Did you see George Clooney in Batman and Robin? Even he’s admitted that both he and it were horrible.

I’m not so much defending Bale as defending the horribleness of Clooney(who I usually like) in that role.

By the way, the Dark Knight is worth it even if only to see the Joker.

Disagree. I loved Begins, but thought Dark Knight was an over-rated mass if mediocrity.

Mr. Bale is far too growly as Batman. He sounds like he’s about to lose his voice.

At least for the first viewing, I liked Two-Face better than the Joker (and now all my Batman friends are now shunning me for heresy)

I would just like to say… Gary Oldman was Lt. Gordon? Whoa! I saw both and never realized that.
