I am moving to a 10-acre ranch with seven horses. I have enjoyed keeping domesticated bees and would like to resume the practice.

Is there any problem with keeping bees on the same farm as several horses? I am concerned about rogues forming feral colonies in the barn or outbuildings.

Are bees attracted to horses (their bodies, feces, feed or water)?

Is there any data on increased incidence of bee-stings (to animals) when there is proximity to an apiary?

Well…my cousin has beehives on his property every year. Quite a few of them, in fact. The neighbor’s horses don’t seem to mind any. They are corralled about 75-100 yards from the hives. As for rogue colonies…a little selective gassing should keep those in line.

I’d say go for it.
