I've hit the MR2 Trifecta

Over the weekend my previous car took a dump (the history behind that one could fill a pit thread for a month…)

So this saturday I was out and about, looking for a new car, and I came across an old love of mine…

The MR2

My first MR2 was a 1986. It was silver. I got it when I graduated from high school…and I loved it. It was fun to drive, like a go-cart…a dream for a young, stupid, 18 year old boy…Then I totaled it…

My second MR2 was a red 1991. It was red. I got it right after I totaled my '86. It felt more solid, like a sports car. That was a seriously fun car. The T-tops made summer driving a blast, and it was fast enough to get me out of, and into, quite a bit of trouble.

Then I strayed…I got a 1994 Stealth. The MR2 is small, super small. When I started playing ice hockey regurally I got tired of putting my ice hockey bag on the seat next to me. I figured the Stealth would be great. Larger car, room for my stuff, and still all sorts of fun to drive…Then it broke for good.

This leads me to Saturday…while looking around I came across a yellow 2000 MR2 Spyder. Oh I’ve been watching these cars since they came out. The car is super cool, and looks just like a boxster. So i got it…and it is a dream to drive. Like the early MR2 it feels like a go-cart. Its not the fastest car out there, but for straight up fun its a winner.

So I’ve hit the trifecta – I’ve now owned all three versions of the MR2, and would easily say that any of them are a great car.

I miss my MR2, I had a 1987 model, deep blue pearl. I had to trade it in when I moved to the country and lived on a private road. The road didn’t get plowed (unless we had an awful lot of snow, and then we had to pay for plowing and share it with the other people who lived on the road) the MR2 didn’t have enough clearance. I once had four people in that car.
