I've killed my soundcard, apparently

…and the hamsters killed your OP.

Ok, here’s the deal:

The company laptop now makes no sound of any kind, because apparently I managed to uninstall something criitical when trying to clean up unneeded programs. Windows now says that there is no default device for audio, so all the controls are dead.

Am I stuck trying to open a laptop to see what kind of device there is? Isn’t the audio going to be controlled off the motherboard probably anyway?

The other problem is that this is a Sceptre off brand computer, and I’ve searched in vain before for even a model number. I don’t know how to get any documentation on this at all.

Suggestions?
