Thursday night my voice started getting rough toward the end of karaoke, and by the time I was driving home my throat was sore and it hurt even to yawn. Since waking up Friday my voice is just getting worse, although it doesn’t hurt. On the other hand, my sinuses were hurting yesterday (Friday). And I don’t mean my voice just sounds scratchy; I’m barely producing sound. This sucks a lot, especially since there’s a phone call I’m expecting and some calls I need to make and I just can’t do it. I’m coughing a little bit, so I hope that between that and the sinus pain this isn’t *another *infection. Gah.
Tack this on to still getting over a car accident from 3 weeks ago and I’m not a happy camper.
Everybody seems to recommend honey for these things. I know some singers who were big on it. Two summers ago, I had a cold with throat pain over the summer and drank a lot of tea with honey… I don’t know if it helped, but it tasted great.
I’m unfortunately all too familiar with that voice. Back in 12th grade, I got a sinus infection and lost my voice right before the Spanish AP exam. If you’ve ever taken a language AP, you know you have to record yourself speaking on tape. The only voice I could manage to squeak out was a Mickey Mouse falsetto, and I sounded ridiculous, but it was all I had. I’ll never forget waiting for the test to begin, clutching my large travel mug full of tea.
Marley23, I’d be happy to down some tea with honey (which does help) but Long Island is finally seeing some summery weather - it’s a bit hard to want to consume hot liquid right now. OTOH I’m trying to hydrate as much as I can. I find that my voice gets a little better after a shower because of the steam.
Hopefully I have enough of a voice tomorrow to call the ENT. Bah.
Yeah, I know the feeling. And I guess I’ll be enjoying that weather later this month. My solution to that (since it was also the summer) was that I did most of my tea drinking at night, and I didn’t make it very hot. I remember microwaving it and then putting in icecubes.
