Iver the engine driver?

In the Who song “A Quick One,” (it’s actually about 8 minutes long, but I digress) one of the bizarre sections of the song starts with “Now to cheer you up, here’s Iver (?) the dirty old engine driver to make you feel all better” and then segues into a chorus that consists of "I’m Iver, the engine driver. . . . " Earlier today, I’m watching the British version of “Whose Line is it Anyway?” one of the skits made reference to Iver the engine. Who or what the hell is he?

The Brits call train engineers “engine drivers”. I believe Iver the engine driver was Pete Townsend’s original creation.

Elmer J. Fudd,
Millionaire.
I own a mansion and a yacht.

Ivor The Engine was a British children’s TV series that started in 1959 and ran for (I’ve heard) about 30 years. It was a fairly simple animation about a small steam train named Ivor on a Welsh mountain railway.

Wow, thanks for bringing the nostalgia back.

I never touched him, ref, honest!
