I don’t think that’s a fair statement.
I get where both sides are coming from, so I’ll throw this out there as a point of reference. Seven months ago ITD gave him a warning for this: https://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=21011952&postcount=143
People don’t think his behavioral pattern is ceasing; they would make a more convincing case if there are other examples from the past 7 months that can be provided to support this?

There’s three between me and Skywatcher.
Obviously, I do. Sexism just does not draw the same kind of mod response as racism does. I think it’s because this board is dominated by older men (like me) and older men just don’t ‘get’ sexism. It doesn’t ping their radar the same way and they are much more willing to let sexism slide rather than do something about it.
There is no relation between menstruation and the existence or diagnosis of BPD.
Some studies have shown a relationship between the severity and presentation of some symptoms of BPD and the menstrual cycle.
The individual in question is not ill because of menstruation.
Oh bull fucking shit you’re going to make that assumption. First, there is no indication that past behavior isn’t taken into consideration. Second, it’s clear that many people have a problem with UR, and wait with bated breath for his posts so they can report them - might as well change his avatar to a giant scarlet A. Third, if folks want to increase the weight we place on past behavior when moderating, I’m not sure the mass bannings will be well received, but I do have a list.
Ok, person with nine warnings.
Just because the board doesn’t reflect your personal view of *How Things Must Be *doesn’t translate into a blind spot, nor does it indicate a lack of caring.
Until better research comes along that invalidates his papers we’ll just continue to use them. That’s how it works in science, when better information comes along that disproves an earlier bullshit notion, we shitcan the bullshit and go with the better information. This is why we don’t immediately ascribe any illness or trouble a woman might experience to hysteria or her “wandering womb.” See how that works?
Might be a reason for that.
Gotta agree with Bone. ITD made her call and she stands by it. Dibble’s thread here is another attempt to game the refs to deal with people he disfavors.
Tough. We’re the staff and we discuss and handle things as we see fit.
Nor does it indicate the absence of a blind spot or an abundance of caring.
If people on the board are constantly pointing to a problem in the community, it’s just possible that a problem does exist.
I agree that these posts could only have been made by people who have not been paying any attention at all.
I find the suggestion anyone expressing their outrage through all the proper channels is somehow trying to game the system weird.
I disfavour spammers, does that mean I am gaming the refs when I report them?
I think the fact that the mods are getting so defensive is telling. There has always been a problem with misogyny on this board. People started pushing back and there was a big blow up around SA’s banning, but it is slipping back to business as usual (does that demonstrate my having paid enough attention to have an opinion about this board I’ve been a member of for 17 years?).
If a moderator makes a call you don’t like on a particular spam report, and you respond by stating that the moderation isn’t interested in doing anything about spam, then we’re going to look at you sideways.
“I’ll ban you all! Then you’ll see! Then you’ll ALL BE SORRY!!!”
To what? Mods who like to flex their self-importance and circle the wagons when questioned on anything? Yes we have.
You certainly haven’t. And as I’ve said before, anyone who posts that the mods are “circling the wagons” when they express their views loses all credibility as an unbiased critic.
I’m not speaking specifically to the (obvious) misogyny, but to the fact that it’s obvious that Urbanredneck has a pattern of such comments, and so despite the fact that he’s continuing the behavior, we’re hearing “this post needs to be looked at as a separate comment and not indicative of a trend.”
If someone had a history of anti-Semitic comments, and they posted “well, did someone take any of her gold?” as their first comment in a new thread about someone’s Jewish daughter having similar issues," or replace “anti-Semitic” with “racist,” “gold” with “fried chicken,” and “Jewish” with “black,” and I think they’d get more than a note.
Combine that with the fact that looking at posting history is what the mods always do when assessing reprimands, and maybe you can see where “oh, maybe this time he meant it in the best way possible,” is fairly disingenuous.
I’ve always liked ITD, and people can have differing opinions, but the condescension from some of the other mods really isn’t helping.
How much prodding did it take until y’all started paying attention to SA’s posting history?
Actually, since this summer, the board has been dominated by a woman. And the moderator who took the action in question here is also a woman. I’m not about to go telling them that they’re the ones who are blind to sexism.
