I wonder what proportion of the GOP base is relieved that all their representatives are lily-white again. I imagine it’s not a real high percentage, but then, when I was in that subculture, most people I knew were religious right, Alan Keyes types, not crypto-fascists. Doesn’t mean they’re not out there–or is that just a leftist paranoid fantasy?
Before the thread is closed I’d like to note that the House GOP isn’t all lily-white. There are three Hispanic Republican legislators, two of them are Cubans (and one more will probably join them next year), but another is Mexican-American. Also, there’s an American Indian Republican (Ben Nighthorse Campbell) in the Senate. I’d be the first to admit that 4 out of 272 being minorities is pretty pathetic (the Dems are 60+ out of 263), but they’re not lily-white.
FTR I’m a registered Democrat who wouldn’t vote Republican for any office, at all.
Heck, I’ve got freckles over 2% of my body, and I’m still about as fishbelly as they get . . .
