Dunno about all that, but at least he can vote now!
Congratulations. My first house is almost sold, (for over asking) and I found out today that my mortgage payout penalty will be rebated if I buy a house within 120 days of closing, not 6 months or the calendar year or whatever else I had been told. I was planning to buy more in the summer, closer to the end of my lease. (Im working across the country from where my house is/was)
So I’m searching again. In the most expensive market in Canada. Anyone got a paper bag before I hyperventilate?
Congratulations! I moved into my new home about a month ago. Selling my
condo and buying the house was the one of the most stressful things I have
gone through. What you are looking at next is tons of paperwork from the
banks and escrow companies. Reading it all will be like having a part time job
for several weeks. After you move in it will may take several months to
get everything unpacked and arranged. One more thing - you don’t own
the house - the house owns you. The house will always want something -
the lawn mowed, a pipe fixed, new paint, nice furniture, etc. Have fun!
Loan approved. Home owners insurance is the last i to get dotted. Closing date in a week and a half.
Who wants to help me move?
Congrats! I’ll help you move if you’re somewhat close to me and there will be pizza and Jagermeister and beer involved.
What’d you get for a mortgage rate? I just got a 30-year fixed rate mortgage at 3.375% yesterday.
You could get Askthepizzaguy to deliver the pizza.
Just don’t tip him with a Home Depot gift card.
Congrats! I just closed on my house at the end of January. Be thankful it wasn’t a short sale. Agreed on all the Home Depot stuff, but it is fun and rewarding even when you find out rats have chewed through your dishwasher and that’s why it doesn’t work grumble grumble…
Done deal. House has been closed upon. Checks have been handed over. Keys (some that actually work) have been received. Moving day is scheduled for this weekend. It’s now only a matter of time before I can start yelling at the neighborhood kids to get off my frickin’ lawn.
I’m also currently deep in the muck of the mortgage application process… Best luck to anyone else in the same situation, it’s been quite a ride. Whoever said upthread that it’s like having a part-time job for a month is spot on, I don’t know how anyone that works regular hours gets it done.
ETA: Congrats on being a home owner, Jack!
Good luck to you as well – the part-time job thing, no doubt. My bosses have been fairly generous in allowing me time to get everything done that I needed done.
Congratulations! I hope home ownership is everything you hoped it would be.
One month in at the home ownership game.
Things I don’t like: having to call in an exterminator less than a month after I move in; having to build a new set of front steps less than a month after I move in; not referring to the documentary, The Money Pit at least a month before I moved in.
Things I like: grilling a steak on my back deck, cold beer in hand; I’m even starting to enjoy mowing the lawn.
Didn’t your house inspector catch that? Ours was so anal he handed in a 14-page report!
Congrats on the new place!
Well, they were both kind of on me.
The bugs … I’m pretty sure they hitched a ride on a shitty old couch from my old apartment.
The stairs, we knew were going to have to be replaced but I thought they would last a little longer than this. The deal with the lady I bought the house from was, “I’ll eat the steps if you put in a radon mitigation system,” which she did, which I’m pretty sure cost more than the steps cost me.
