Jack Chick's Alberto: how was he proven a fraud?

I’ve heard that “Alberto” (Alberto Riviera), the former Jesuit priest who came out of the dark of Roman Catholicism into the light of Jack Chick evangelism  was proven a fraud in a few Protestant magazines in the early 80’s. I was unable to find any details in searching the web, does anyone here know the details of the investigations 20 years ago? How was he proven a fraud, and what was made of his Franco-issued ID?

The reason you can’t find any details on the web is because it’s spelled “Rivera”, not “Riviera”.
