Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall in a heartwarming family film: "Shining"

Yup. You can even see the preview here.

(This is for the folks, whose names I disremember, who were asking a week or two ago about how and why editors of movie trailers fiddle with the movies they’re asked to promote. Basically, you can do pretty much anything you want with the raw material of a movie, and you can make something look completely different in the ads. If your objective is to plant butts in seats, and faithfully representing the movie isn’t a priority, then no wonder this sort of thing happens.)

(Oh, and this is also evidence for the proposition that “filmmaking is editing.” The more you know about how movies are produced, the more you realize that they’re actually made in the editing room. All the acting and filming and costume design and stuff is just a means of building a large pile of raw material out of which the actual film is carved.)

(Besides, the linked “preview” is just freakin’ hilarious.)

(Not to mention it’s kind of fun to write an entire post as a series of parenthetical asides.)

(So, anyway, enjoy.)

Sonofabitch, I didn’t see the other thread.

I think you mean threads.
