Jack Nicklaus' Grandson Is An Idiot

Yeah, I know you don’t have to wear a motorcycle helmet in some states.
Or protective gear.

You do, however, need to ride at a reasonable speed for conditions.

You know,in case some asshat pulls out in front of you.

And believe me, they do it hourly.

This is clearly a 2-lane residential street. The speed limit can’t be more than 35 mph, or 51 feet per second. With a one second reaction time, that leaves 100 feet to stop. I’m totally guessing that he’s about 150 feet away when the car pulls out.

Bikes can totally do 35 to 0 inside 100 feet. Jr. was speeding. Nick = idiot.

Wait stop the presses…someone on a sport bike riding like an asshole?

Why is the person who pulled out in front of him the idiot?

Edit: Why is the person who pulled out in front of the motorcycle NOT the idiot?

Because the person who pulled out in front of him was probably familiar with that intersection; and was conditioned to time their entrance to the roadway with vehicles approaching at 35 mph.

So, said motorist sees the cycle a certain distance away, KNOWS that they have a certain amount of time to get out of the way, and pulls out.

Problem is, the donorcycle is approaching twice as fast as it should be.

The motorcycle almost takes out that kid on the sidewalk too.

Hard to believe he was going that much faster then 35 mph if he walked away from it, though. It doesn’t seem like he slows down much (the bike travels about the same distance between frames up until the last frame or two), I think he just didn’t see the car until it was too late.

I don’t think the guy in the car made a poor judgement based on the speed of the motorcycle being faster than he expected…I think he just pulled out as if the guy wasn’t there at all. Bikes are often invisible to drivers…either they don’t see them, or they see them, but it doesn’t register as an oncoming vehicle. It happens all the time. The guy in the car appeared clueless that a bike was approaching at all, not surprised that it approached quicker than expected.

It doesn’t look like either the driver or the rider react very much. The car continues to slowly pull out and block the entire street, and the bike doesn’t do much of anything.

I think the motorcyclist saw the car; he steered to pass in front of it but the car pulled out far enough to block the entire lane.

I’m not sure I agree with the estimate of his speed or reaction time, though. The camera is on a bus going the opposite direction (but stopped). I often see wide-angle cameras used in those cases, which makes him look farther away than he is.

What’s that car even trying to do? It looks like he eventually tries to make a left turn but he heads quite a bit to the right first.

My thought to. I don’t even think the driver looked left. Ever had a car pull out in front of you and its obvious they didn’t even look your way?

You had me convinced at no helmet and no protective gear.

I agree

SMIDSY

Jack Nicklaus’ grandson?

Who cares?

ETA: That question is as much to the OP as to the news organization that apparently put this on TV. Just because there’s video of something doesn’t make it important.

It was picked up yesterday by the sports news outlets because he is a tight end for Florida St and has potential to play in the NFL. Traditional news picked it up today because it’s good video.
As for the OP: It looks like he was doing 50 feet per second, or at least close enough that proudly proclaiming he was speeding seems like a reach.

He was just putting along.

Are you saying motorcycles shouldn’t do the speed limit?:dubious:

Jack Nicklaus - golfer- golfstroke - putt…oh, never mind.

Don’t spell it out! I like to see the look on their keyboard when the light dawns.
