Jackie Chan as Phileas Fogg in Around the World in..?

I was wandering through IMDb and noticed that Jackie Chan is scheduled to play Phileas Fogg in the 2003 release of Around the World in 80 Days.

For those of you who don’t read, Around the World in 80 Days is a delightful farce written by Jules Verne about the ultimate Englishman, Fogg, in the mid-1880s who decides (with the help of a wager) with his man servant, Passepartout, to go around the globe in 80 days.

I love Jackie Chan, but I just can’t see him as Fogg. I think he would be a great Passepartout (yes, I know Passepartout is supposed to be French - but both a Mexican, Cantiflas and the Three Stouges have played versions of Passepartout in earlier screen versions), but not Fogg.

What do you think?

TV

Is it an American or HK movie? And what time period will it be set in?

Give us a link.

Also, does he get to direct & perform his own stunts?

If so, this could be cool.

This sounds more than a little odd.

My guess - and it’s just a guess - is that the character will not be English in this version.

It must be a mistake. My guess is that ,if he is acting at all, he is Passepartout for which as the OP mentioned he would be quite
interesting(if unconventional)

Here is the imdb entry btw:

I tend to agree. IMdb has little information. They say it is “in production”. They list Frank Coraci as the director and say it is an American production.

…and doesn’t Chan always do his own stunts?

TV

I just checked out director Coraci’s most recent movies: The Waterboy and The Wedding Singer.

These may be selling points for some, but as for me…

Jackie Chan is the best stuntman in the world.

He would be wasted in the David Niven role of Fogg, so I hope he’s Passepartout (or some other role where he can express his remarkable talents).

The IMDb hs occasional accuracy problems so I’d say there is a remote possibility that he’ll be playing Passepartout.
