I’ll admit, sheepishly, to an enormous and scary fascination with Michael Jackson when I was in 7th grade. Even then, though, I wondered why people enjoyed his singing when he was a child. He was shrill. He was strained.
Whichever song has the “Ooh ooh baybeeee” in it is painful.
So I wanna know: Do other people enjoy the sound of his voice, or just the novelty of a whippersnapper singing pop?
The Jackson 5 is great. I don’t think young Michael’s voice is shrill at all. It’s a kid’s voice, but I think it fits the music fine. But the real greatness of the J5 is the music – it’s infectious R&B-flavored pop that, im experience, makes everyone tap their foot.
It was high-pitched, but not shrill. I thought he was (and still is) a great entertainer. Too bad he’s mental. I feel sorry for anyone who gets that delusional and loses touch.
