Jackson mayor hospitalized on election day

The mayor down in Jackson (MS) was hospitalized yesterday evening. Apparently he had some kind of ‘cardiac event’ although nobody will come out and say if he had a heart attack. He has a history of heart trouble.

He came in third in the election. I wonder if the stress of that added to his upcoming trial beginning on Monday was too much for the poor guy.

Then on Aug. 26, 2006, Melton, his two police bodyguards and a group of young men took a fateful turn down Ridgeway Street in the Virden Addition neighborhood.

By the end of the night, the house was a shambles and witnesses were saying the mayor had ordered his entourage to set on the house with sledgehammers.

Melton said the house was used to sell drugs but danced around his involvement. Within days, he had been indicted on state felony charges, including malicious mischief and unrelated gun charges.

Sounds like a real winner.
