Cyn got it right. The quote is from The Magician’s Nephew by C. S. Lewis. The Magician’s Nephew is a prequel to The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and it explains how The White Witch came to be in Narnia. Jadis is the name of The White Witch when she was the Empress Of Charn.
