Jail - Groups Veteran Inmates Together.

Local story. It’s the first program like this in Arkansas. Seems like a very good idea. Especially for vets with PTSD. That common background of military discipline and training can mean a lot. The interviews in the news video makes it clear these men are supporting each other.

I know there are screw ups and criminals even in the military. No surprise that they end up doing the same thing outside the military.

But there are guys that served honorably that for whatever reason took the wrong path as civilians. I can see a program like this helping them. Should make life easier for the jail’s correction officers. A group like this probably won’t have as many discipline problems in the jail.

I wonder if any other states have tried this approach?

Washington State prisons are creating pods for Veteran Inmates.

This article discusses the issues with the program. Still too early to know if recidivism will go down compared to the general prison population.

Quite surprised Sheriff Joe Arpaio in Arizona is trying this too. Didn’t realize he supports prisoner rehabilitation. Whatever his thinking. I’m glad Vets are benefiting.
