No fair preempting such a beloved gag! But that’s exactly what I thought of too when I first heard about this.
It seems a bit silly to film that deep whens it’s going to be 95% CGI anyway, and whatever live action stuff they do will just be in a large water tank. I really don’t see the point of this other than as perhaps inspiration for the animators.
And more importantly, as a marketing gimmick.
Yeah, I can’t think of any practical purpose to go there to film for a sequel to Avatar. He should take a nice camera, of course, but if there’s actually something there worth incorporating into Avatar 2, it will be by sheer luck.
