James Gunn fired from Guardians of the Galaxy 3

I didn’t realize that answering your question was “jumping on you”. I literally wasn’t sure if you asked that rhetorically to make some point or were genuinely curious.

Next time I’ll refrain from answering you at all

I was going to mention that but apparently one of the girls started using it medically while fighting cancer so it didn’t really seem like “started toking up and mellowed out about all that Nazi stuff”

Achtung! Hippie…
Man it’s getting difficult to find good Nazi rock bands these days…

Well now this is interesting:

James Gunn Boards ‘Suicide Squad 2’ To Write And Possibly Direct

There is a pretty wide range of outcomes for how the next few years of DC movies could go.

I sort of called it, although I was assuming it would be Fox that would snap him up and have him architect a Deadpool-centered/X-Men-adjacent cinematic universe, or else write and direct the first R-rated attempt at a Fantastic Four movie, which is really the only shot that franchise ever has at breaking 40% on the TomatoMeter. A Suicide Squad-type movie is obviously a great fit for Gunn’s sensibility although given what an absolute hash the first film was it really carries a lot of dead weight to be shed in the sequel.

Hopefully Gunn gives his approval to whomever takes over Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3 and provides some guidance, and Marvel selects someone with the appropriately quirky approach, but I’m dubious that it will live up to the first two in terms of the visual inventiveness and snappy dialogue (a lot of which was added by Gunn during filming or ad libbed by the cast with Gunn’s encouragement). Given that the Guardians were supposed to be the franchise successors to the Avengers, this also leaves some doubt about the direction that the MCU will take after Avengers 4: We Still Won’t Tell You The Title Because It Just Makes You That Much More Anxious To Give Us All Your Money. But frankly, Marvel Studios has assembled a lot of talent and allowed it to develop in unique ways within an overall framework, so there are a multitude of ways they can take the MCU going forward even if none of the Guardians players decide to return beyond their current contracts. Chris Pratt and Dave Bautista were revelations, but it isn’t as if Marvel is struggling to attract and develop great talent.

Stranger

If I were DC and James Gunn expressed some interest, I would just ask him what he wants to do, and let him do it.

Yeah. I had no interest at all in a new Suicide Squad, but I’m interested now. The new Wonder Woman will hopefully be good, and Aquaman looks at least interesting. Of course it all might turn out terribly, but who knows.

Ok Dave Bautista, you can take your foot off of Bob Iger’s neck now.

Curious about what changed the PR calculus in eight months. Just needed whatever fervor there was last summer to die down?

But whoever brought up the initial issue (the offensive tweets) … aren’t those people still around to complain?

As those were the same people that complained about every MCU movie, and even the same people who predicted that captain marvel would fail miserably, I thk that Disney finally realized that those are not people that need to be listened to.

Also, they were notably silent when Gunn was hired by Warner to direct the next Suicide Squad movie - possibly that pushed Disney to realize the complaints against Gunn were astroturf.

AP story here

That’s my read on it, too. The sad attempt to gin up the poutrage machine because they didn’t want girl cooties in their movie franchise may have finally gotten through to Disney that the only rational response to these people is to ignore them.

That’s true of almost all outrage mobs. Stop feeding them and they’ll go away.

Obligatory postmortem from the master. (No, the other master. :D)

Yes. Great, wonderful, awesome. Look, I really don’t give a damn if Disney makes a billion dollars or just a modest 800 million, or if GOTG3 gets delayed three months or three hours. This is big for one reason…justice was served. What’s more, Disney, one of the most powerful entities in the entire world, took the right side. Yeah, I’m aware that it happened mainly because Gunn had a lot of support and Disney stood to lose a ton of money and the clock was ticking. You know what else I’m aware of? That I don’t give a crap. The. Good. Guys. Won.

For two goddam years, the mainstream media has pushed for Donald Trump and his hideous revolution with the fervor of of a megachurch preacher. Dear lord, I have not seen this hard a sell since the Playstation 2. Week after week, month after month, it was Trump’s gaining in popularity, Trump has a ton of support, everyone bows down to Trump, Trump is the boss, Trump is the king, Trump is indestructible, Trump has a plan for everything, everyone who matters loves Trump, on and on and on and on. Never mind the roughly 300,000 whiny, snivelling articles about white former Trump supporters who regret their decision soooooo much and need to be showered with understanding and pity and love (not enough  in the world.) And then we saw the ugliness. White supremacists. Beatings. Murders. Goddam Nazis. Maybe Trump helped create them; maybe they were always there and were simply emboldened by a filthier, more disgusting America. I’ve always held that America has always had an absolutely freakish tolerance for disgusting jerkish behavior…good lord, some of the crap I’ve seen boys got away with would’ve sent them to the freaking labor camps in places like China or Germany. And for a while, it looked like the forces of white supremacy and male supremacy and bigotry and intolerance and just taking a giant steaming dump on the country in general had all the power in the world.

Well, guess what? Gunn not only is back in the saddle, he also has a sweet gig directing Suicide Squad 2, so he’s getting paid by both huge comic book studios. Oh, BTW, that Captain Marvel movie they were also so cracked up? Making money hand over fist. That’s why it’s great to have moments like this, to remind us just how little power the whineboys have, how a man they targeted for destruction is now bigger than ever, and how easy it is for a giant like Disney to just step over them like the feeble little dust specks they are. Even if it took a little while for them to realize that.

Oh, that reminds me…

[Moderating]

This is about Gunn and Disney, not about Trump.
