Was the late James Hoffa a real crook? I was watching the 1983 movie about him, which portrays him as a man totally devoted to the teamsters union…and painfully aware that he was getting into big time trouble with the mafia, loans to crooked businesses. His struggles with bobby Kennedy also showed his hatred for the Kennedy family. Anyway, was Hoffa personally honest? As far as I know, he never had a big house or car, and lived pretty conservatively 9his favorite hobby was fishing). Yet, despite this, his union wound up getting controlled by some pretty sleazy people. After his stint in prison, Hoffa was pardoned by President Nixon. There is no real evidence that he had the power to regain control of the teamsters-so why was he murdered?

for what it’s worth, my father, who wrote the brief on Hoffa’s appeal from the jury tampering conviction said that he was framed by Kennedy, although he had, in fact, tampered with the jury. (in other words, he wasn’t guilty of tampering the way he was convicted of tampering, but some other form of tampering…huh?)
