Not true at all. The green ones are advanced the blue indicates immaturity and that the spirit is on probation for letting itself get seen too many times. If you don’t know these most basic things how can we trust you on the rest. My spirit guide says you just make shit up.
No it isn’t. Coincidentally, this episode was showing tonight, so I had the opportunity to watch the whole sequence, and they proved that the activity on the polygraph was not due to “psychic powers”. And what a polygraph proves regarding “psychic powers” is of little value anyway. I don’t think it is very useful with people, either.
No it doesn’t. It proves that your friend has a video of unknown phenomena, perhaps a photographic defect or deliberate fake. It would require a laughable and credulous naivete to jump to the conclusion that it was due to a “spirit”.
There was nothing in that story about the camera being checked out, only that people have come by to stare at the camera. The manager supposedly watched the monitor in amazement the whole time, but never stepped outside door to see what the hell was supposedly flying around? Yeah, right.
Again, I ask. What does video have to do with the MDC?
I do know about contracts, I once saved myself thousands of dollars due to challenging one word on a supplier’s contract when I was in business.
The key word here is “video tape” there just wouldn’t be any. Many prominent psychics have agreed to take the challenge IF the test were video taped and shown to an audience. Randi refused on every one of them. Prove me wrong, find a video tape of one of his tests of a psychic. Not the peeing in the pants farse.
I see no reason to believe this claim.
Prove yourself right.
There were people all over the place with many of them looking at the camera while this was going on. Watch the video again.
I have already, many, many times.
No you haven’t. Not even once.
The plant thing has been duplicated many times by different people. It does prove thought can cause a plant to react, yes, that is what is proves. If you deny this, it is ok with me. But it shows why skeptics are such a small minority. Most people watch this and want to know more and go on to learn more.
No, it doesn’t, it only proves you will believe what you want to believe.
They are not looking at the event while it happens-they are staring at a recording of the supposed event. the only person who is outside while it happens, near the end of the tape, walks right by when the blue fuzz, due to it’s position on the screen, looks as if it is covering most of a windshield, and doesn’t even glance at it. They manager is pleased as punch that this story is getting around, because it brings in customers.
For the last time, lekatt-what does this video have to do with the MDC, which is the topic of this thread?
From the Challenge FAQ:
You couldn’t be more wrong. Will you admit it this time?
Which “prominent” psychics? You have a cite for this, right?
Then you know exactly what would happen if the MDC contract were breached by either party. Randi would get his ass handed to him by the courts, right?
It’s not the taping he has an issue with. He wants the test done before an audience, so that when the “psychic” manages to fool the untrained audience but not the trained official observers, he can turn it into a popularity contest and claim the “psychic” won because more people believed him than didn’t. Instead of a simple pass/fail system, because he believes that people get to vote on what is real and what is not, he wants to turn it into a kind of “American Idol” for psychics.
In other words, the audience is right, and the videotape is wrong?
That’s it in a nutshell.
Heh, heh. You said "nut"shell and hit the nut right on the head.
Whoops – is that too strong for GD?
Yes. Please don’t do it again.
This is an untrue statement. Nothing of this sort has ever been proven, I grant you people have believed it over the centuries, but that is not proof and you know it isn’t proof, because no proof of this stuff exists. If there was proof then Randi wouldn’t need to do his test. Personal experience means zip, nada, nothing. It is too open to misinterpretation. So take that out of the equation and you have nothing. The studies and research you speak of—has it been accepted by the scientific community? No, so it really has no validity either.
Your last line in your response is accurate. The person making a claim is the one that needs to prove it. PROVE IT or shut up already. YOU are the one making a claim that is outside the realm of accepted research. Or are you telling me the vast majority of scientists believe in this as well and my position is the minority position in the research field? If so–please provide a credible cite of this.
By the way, I’m probably barking up the wrong tree, but… lekatt has claimed several times that Randi believes in woo. However, every time I’ve seen Randi on Larry King and/or every video I’ve seen of him, he says that he doesn’t know for sure that it’s all a fake, but he’s never seen it proven.
I have never, ever, ever seen Randi say that he believes in woo. Has a cite been provided to back that claim up, or is it just creative writing?
Setting aside, for the moment, the fact that you are weaseling on your claim that Randi has the final say on the test result, rather than the protocol, I have to ask, do you even know what the word “final” means? If the psychic and Randi *both *have the ability to accept or reject the protocol, then neither have the final say. It is simply a negotiation. No one has the last word. So stop using that as an excuse.
Plenty of protocols have been agreed upon, and plenty of preliminary tests have been attempted. Never has Randi, or anyone else for that matter, overruled the test results, which was your original objection. So stop using that as an excuse also.
