That’s because you’re a fucking moron. Here is a weight belt, and what does it say in the description?
The people that are using the equipment are using it for its intended function.
The problem with the wheel chair isn’t the weight, its the landing. You’re dropping 3-4 feet and if you lean too far back you are going to crack your skull. I can’t believe you don’t see this.
In a wheelchair. Remember that trumps everything. It trumps the actual law, it trumps policy. And, apparently, it trumps reality. He a moron…in a wheelchair.
Here is a video of Pittsburgh Penguins defense Kris Letang doing a routine workout, which includes the dumbells strapped to his legs. That part starts at about 00:21 or so, if you feel like skipping the rest.
(Dammit, I cannot WAIT for hockey season to start. Hell, I can’t wait for the damned pre-season!)
Don’t forget with the wheelchair pull-ups, Jamie required two other people to lift him up to the bar. Now never mind that they were volunteers doing this, it was still a risky activity outside the normal range of activities for the gym, and I am not surprised at all that the gym would say “Uh, no. We’d rather you not run the risk of injuring yourselves or Mr McGarry if you lift him incorrectly or drop his chair. Please stop doing that”
The next time you have to ask your friends on Facebook to join The Straight Dope Message Board because you need back-up, at least have had the good sense to make it private.
Below is a link to a short video of me performing a set of my wheelchair-pullups. If you notice a rightward sway as my set progresses, it is due to me being stronger on my right side. This is because of all the scar tissue I have on the left side of my upper back from surgery.
Shut up you mean you have been discriminating against him because he is an asshole and not because of an ADA protected reason? Get on the bandwagon, dude.
