While I think the committee has done an excellent job in how they’ve formatted their presentation, as a mix of taped and live testimony…I can’t help but wonder about the testimony they haven’t chosen to show us, and without questioning by friendly Republicans we’d never know. How do we know that they haven’t cut everything that a witness (e.g., Cippolone) said that contradicted their narrative?
The risk would be that Cippolone would come out immediately and say that his statements were taken out of context. It’s also possible they showed him what they planned on showing at the hearings ahead of time and got his OK.
I only got sucked in, I mean started to watch the hearings yesterday. To some extent I have to agree with @jsc1953 above. The narrative feels selected and engineered to support the points the committee is trying to make, rather than an objective recital. I realize that the only alternative is to present everything, and no-one not paid to do so has the patience to take all that in. So I don’t have an alternative approach to suggest, except possibly to make all the material available to anyone, and let the nit-picking and selective quoting begin.
I’m honestly kind of surprised we haven’t seen a massive conspiracy theory about how the taped interviews, specifically those that used video conferencing, have been manipulated to change the testimony. As I was watching the latest, it occurred to me how easy it would be to splice in a new question when the view switches between particpants, to make it look like the subject agreed with a statement that they never even heard. Are the CTists so caught up with the “stolen election” nonsense that they’ve missed the boat entirely on this?
Just endorsing. The people who are having their testimony released are all real people who are still alive. Fox has their phone numbers and no one is stopping them from going on there and denouncing everything presented.
Fox is in on it, man! [/ConspiracyTheorist]
Currently still alive - we all know that Hillary will have them commit suicide if they speak up.
Please don’t help crazy people to get their crazy on.
Hmmmm, but Cippilone deli sandwich discussion is perfectly in line.
(Mmm, mayo and pepperoncini on mine)
And only a small percentage of those will change their minds, at least immediately. There is a very small percentage of voters, way under 15%, who will go from Team A to Team B, but you need to reach the whole 15% in the middle to get to the 5% (3%? 2%?) who will actually change their minds. A lot of effort for a very small result, but it’s worth it in the end.
Moderating:
No, it wasn’t. But it wasn’t likely to devolve into a hundreds-of-posts discussion like the neck and clavicles grab discussion did, either.
You’re discussing moderation outside of ATMB, which is not permitted. If you have further comments, please take up your complaints there. There’s even an already-open thread:
The committee includes Republicans. It could have included more, but they submitted to the order not to participate.
I can’t tell you how disappointed I was when in the 2020 election, despite 4+ years of experience, more people voted for CFSG than in 2016.
I chose to believe the media that might put a spin on it, but more or less represents reality.
Exactly! The committee is composed entirely of people who respect democracy and integrity. The American people deserve to hear from both sides!
Oops, my sincere apologies. Thank you for the explanation on the difference.
Back on topic (hopefully), There is some very disturbing reporting from Seth Abramson about this motley crew trying to invoke the “Independent State Legislature Theory”:
Its behind a paywall but the twitter feed shows a lot of info that is even scarier than what we now know (did not think it was possible).
I am very, very worried about this. The SCOTUS is taking the North Carolina case so they can legislate from the bench to accomplish what Trump tried to do while it is still illegal, with his fake electors scheme. I respect Seth Abramson a lot, and I believe his explanation is the correct one.
If you want to discuss this further, I encourage you to start a separate thread. There was some limited discussion about it in the ‘The Supreme Court isn’t done…’ thread, but I don’t find a dedicated discussion about it based on a cursory search. There ought to be one, I think. Here’s an article that lays out the planned takeover quite well:
Thanks.
Nope. That just plays into the hands of the known liars with (R) after their name, including the bullshit artists at Fox News.
That’s why I specified “friendly” Republicans, otherwise known as batshit crazy fascist traitors.
To anyone critical of the committee, imagine how useless it would have been if Gym Jordan had actually been allowed to participate.
I’m wondering if its possible to add a few more counts of witness tampering in the last few years? How about Maria Yovanavich:
Or at least show a pattern to help prosecute?
