What I’m hoping is that the J6C has a fair idea who their target audience is, and is continuously ensuring that they are delivering a compelling message to that audience, and in an effective way.
I can’t get past the idea that we’re The Choir. They had us at ‘hello’
Haven’t they left the question of more hearings open? I got the distinct impression that after the firehose of information they’ve been getting that they want a little time to analyze and regroup.
They have. I think it was Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson who said possible further proceedings in August and/or September. They will also have a hearing when they issue their final report.
When everyone was discussing “high crimes and misdemeanors”, and people were complaining about how ambiguous that was, I always thought that the military code of conduct could be used as a fairly reasonable standard.
A commander should lead by example and, in the government, the President is the ultimate commander of all of them. If he’s telling others to tend to their duties with proper and faithful consideration, and then goes and violates that same, then he is guilty of something that even he can’t defend himself of. It’s his demand of others and is a standard that he should hold himself to.
I have a fair list of executive orders that I would issue, as President, largely to lock in later presidents against corrupt behavior by stating, for the historical record, the Executive branch’s view on a few Constitutional questions in areas like this.
Approaching it from the angle of someone who views the riots as evil, sure.
If you’re on the side of the people who perpetrated the rioting - who were all at home, watching TV, and cheering it on - then showing that Trump was doing the same is not a very useful thing. “He’s one of us!” Is the takeaway.
Likewise, if your goal is to investigate areas of law to change, then there’s no clear purpose to demonstrating that Trump was derelict in duty. He can’t be prosecuted for that and, likewise, there’s no law needed to allow Congress to impeach a President for that. They could do so, tomorrow.
In a normal world, sure, but in the Trumpyverse it is always “You do this for me now and I’ll consider later what I’ll do for you,” with the implication if anything.
Did Pottinger not sleep well last night? Those are some major league dark circles under his sort of red eyes, and he has a slightly wired vibe that reminds me of the day after a sleepless night,
