For those with strong stomachs, here’s the response from Dolt .45 regarding the hearings to date. Caution: best to read on an empty stomach.

This is merely an attempt to stop a man that is leading in every poll, against both
Republicans and Democrats by wide margins, from running again for the Presidency.
The reason I am leading in the polls is because Democrats have caused record inflation,
sky high gas prices, energy dependence on our adversaries, the education system is in
crisis, illegal aliens are invading our border, the supply chain has crippled our way of life,
parents can’t get baby formula, mandates have crippled businesses, and our way of life
has been crushed by government regulations. The United States is being destroyed.
The Democrats know that I would correct all of this, and they are doing
everything in their power to stop me – but we can’t be stopped. We have to Save
America.

they are delaying wed. hearing to another date, thursday’s hearing will centre on the pressure campaign on pence and the electors.

I’m reminded of nutjob Patrick Byrne’s insider account of the insurrection, especially a meeting with Rudy and his team. The meeting happened in a hotel bar the day before the hair dye fiasco.

Byrne had received permission to join the meeting, which had been in progress for some time, to present his evidence. He was there from 11:30PM to 1AM. During that 90 minute time frame, Rudy consumed 3 triple Scotches, the equivalent of a drink every 10 minutes.
Of course, he’d been drinking before Byrne arrived and continued drinking after he left. Rudy’s a lush, and I think his Russian friends slipped him a bottle laced with hallucinogenic drugs at some point in the past few years,

There was a Pit thread – not sure it’s appropriate to link to it here – where a Doper pitted the grieving mother of the Uvalde, Texas mass murderer for comments that appeared to ‘defend’ her monstrous child.

But the psyche – and denial – are awe-inspiringly powerful things.

When my wife and I were talking about the J6 hearings last evening, and watching some of the highlights covered on the news, we agreed that the % of MAGA-types who would be swayed by the hearings – even assuming that any of them was actually watching – would be alarmingly low.

We’re way, way, WAY down deep into the whole Trump shit-show-cum-grift.

It feels like the moldy parts (ie, the Trump supporters) whose minds could be changed have already been cut away. All that’s left is a rather pathetic lump of stinky cheese.

The curve that represents the number of people who had/will have an epiphany about this man, and watch an outsized portion of their very identities turn to dust, started low and is now asymptotically approaching zero.

I have a brother and SIL that I love, but I cannot – for the life of me – imagine them ever loosening their grip on the last 5+ years.

They can’t. It’s as ‘simple’ and as ‘common’ as very religious people waking up and deciding that there is no God.

Neither can I imagine them deciding that they’ve simply and utterly been conned for any money that they may have donated to Trump along the way.

In fact … like an addict who steadfastly refuses to go through withdrawal … ISTM that they truly, madly, deeply need this motherfucker back in the White House to spare them an unimaginable amount of Weltschmerz.

The ‘psychology’ around this cohort is as fascinating as it is destructive.

No question. Most of them are beyond reach and will still be defending their stance in 20 years, no matter what happens.

I think the best we can hope for from these hearings – and the DOT indictments and convictions that I pray follow – is that a significant number of people whose minds are not hopelessly poisoned take away an unequivocal message: The GOP is full of crooks and liars who have no respect for democracy.

These audiences include:

  • People who consider themselves Republicans but still have a moral backbone
  • Democrats who are dismayed at recent turns of events and have lost their enthusiasm to vote
  • People who consider themselves independent and vote based on how they think the economy is performing
  • Younger voters who think all politicians are corrupt and therefore don’t vote

These groups include millions of voters, maybe tens of millions. If 5% of them get the message it could have a huge impact in November and in 2024.

My favorite quote of last night’s hearing was one of Trump’s campaign team - not sure his name (not Steipan), who fielded an irate call from Pete Navarro after telling Trump yet again that he had lost:

“Pete Navarro accused me of being one of the ‘deep state’ working against Trump. I never again took a phone call from Pete Navarro.”

I take solace in the knowledge that Merritt Garland says that the DOJ is watching the hearings intently and that he personally is watching them all. Part of the grifted money went to pay Kim Guilfoyle $60,000 for a 2 minute speech on 1/6. I hope the IRS is watching as well.

If I’m honest, I’m not sure why this information was presented in the hearing, nor why everyone seems to care about it? It’s legal to get drunk, and it was a good day on which to do it. What’s the fuss?
