They had the original members, and not only did I not know they were on tour, I was quite surprised to find out that Perry Farrell is still alive.
I had no idea there were even still around.
I was listening to them in the early 90s.
You’d think they had grown up enough by now to not ruin a whole tour but I guess not.
I wish bands would have more respect for their fans. Take fights somewhere else. Lots of people spend lots of money and effort to get to these concerts.
Some friends were at the show, there were mixed comments on whether Perry’s vocals were miserable or OK before the fight.
Farrell is a weird dude.
I saw the video. “Brawl” it was not.
The video, pretty sad:

One of the top comments: Too much Addiction, not enough Jane.
I read that he’s been struggling with his vocals this tour. Complaining that the band is too loud and he can’t project over them. There was also a story that he was performing while drinking a bottle of wine.
I guess a combination of mental health, addiction, and age.
Been caught fighting, once, when I was five…
“Jane says get off the stage.”
The punch cost the entire band a lot of money.
Their old fan base (b. around 1975) is approaching fifty and has the extra income to splurge on tickets and memorabilia.
They’ve reunited several times. Keeping the money rolling in.
I was surprised to learn the band formed in 1985. I think of them as a 90’s band.
I was already too old. They never interested me.
Yeah, Perry attacks Navarro and Navarro pushes back and blocks. But I believe the guy who comes over and punches Perry in the stomach a couple times is another band member. I get the feeling they can’t stand him, especially when wasted.
I have heard from multiple people who have said that Perry drinks before shows and during shows and is often wasted after a few songs. Quality comes down, slurring, etc.
I have no idea if he is an alcoholic, but he shows symptoms consistent with one.
Undercard for Oasis?
“Let’s see, we’ll trade you Perry for Noel plus a drummer to be named later.”
Correct - that’s the bassist, Eric Avery. The first guy (with a beard) who grabbed Perry was Dan, Dave’s guitar tech.
I’m a Jane’s fan from way back, and while it’s a shame to see this, it’s also fairly on-brand for them.
I’ve heard. I literally read someone who saw them in the 90’s, and in a couple decades since and they indicated that Perry was sober about one time in the four concerts.
Edit: “literally” should have been by the sober comment. He was literally only sober that many times.
I remember reading, IIRC in SPIN magazine, that he paid a male prostitute to give him oral sex, because he wondered if it would be any different/better if it came (no pun intended) from a man. Yeah, yeah, I know, no kink-shaming here, folks.
(He said it wasn’t.)
Don’t forget that their original fans from the late 1980s and early 1990s were also bringing their adult children, in many cases.
Farrell starred in a movie called “Gift” that was on the midnight movie circuit for a while. My brother saw it, while sober, and he said it was terrible.
I believe the fight occurred on the Avery’s birthday.
Dave Grohl, Perry Farrell and now Diddy…not a great week for 90s music icons.
An extramarital child, no big deal, and a drunken stage fight like which have happened since bands were a thing, and though I don’t know what’s currently up with Diddy, I already read months ago about severe accusations against him including sexual abuse, violence and human trafficking, so if true not really comparable.
ETA: I just caught up with the news, it somehow escaped me that he got arrested, but it seems it was for exactly these accusations.
That tracks, 100% - I saw a recent clip from an interview where Perry admitted he’d “…been loaded for 40 years…”
Dave, has taken sobriety seriously (according to mutual friends/acquaintances), and you can see that in how he reacted to Perry’s behavior onstage. Dan did a great job taking care of his artist during the situation, IMHO.
According to the sometimes-knowing-Wikipedia, it wasn’t his birthday, just another day in the trenches…rock ‘n’ roll can be a weird biz.
I enjoyed the last track they dropped, “Imminent Redemption”, about a month ago. Here’s hoping Perry can pull it together and they can at least keep the studio work going.
