January 31st Democratic Debate: Discuss

I was just listening to the pollsters from Quinnipiac College and Gallup and they were talking about the innaccuracies and problematic devices associated with looking at polls. The main gist of what I heard was Hillary is no longer commanding a lead as much as running a very tight kentucky derby race. If even a fraction of the independents want change and turn out in Obama’s favor, this race is going to turn to him very quickly over the next couple weeks.

Now if Independants and others remain quiet this will remain a horserace right up to the convention. But if I’m hearing the buzz correctly, Obama is gaining huge momentum monetarily and is garnering more and more of the independent and Edwards crowds.

Also, Obama’s opening was VERY SMOOTH and diplomatic! Presidential - and when he told Wolf to basically hush - I laughed out loud as did my wife!

Yeah. “Unhelpful” for cable news, the vampire of the news business.

Hillary finally realized that she benefits from a controversy-free news cycle. The more things look amicable and friendly, the more people are going to not think and just vote for the person with the most name recognition. Every time they have a dust up, Obama’s numbers go up.

According to this analysis, the relatively civilized tone of this debate compared to previous ones may open the door to the possibility of a joint Clinton/Obama or Obama/Clinton ticket just maybe possibly.

Absolutely, positively not. Anybody who’s been paying attention could tell you that would never happen, but especially if you listened to Obama’s answer to that question in the debate, he made it quite clear he wants someone completely different from her. Their contention that “he did not shoot the speculation down,” just says to me that they weren’t listening very carefully. He may not have come out and said, “Not over my dead body,” but his description of who he would have was the complete antithesis to her.

It would be political suicide to excoriate her as he’s done on her Iraq vote and on her being the “past,” and then head into the general election with her on his ticket. Likewise, it would be political suicide for him to accept a second place spot on her ticket for precisely the same reason. He has distanced himself from her so utterly, that he cannot get in bed with her now. No way.

Clinton may gain from having an Obama vip, but Obama wouldn’t gain from a Clinton vip IMHO.
And I’m not sure Obama would say yes to a vip, maybe, but I have some doubts. I’d be putting money on a 2012 election for Obama is Hillary really screwed up the clean up in Iraq and Universal Healthcare…
But I’m voting for BHO so I’m hoping his momentum continues to skyrocket.

Pffft. Are you saying you agree with the analysis?

Not quite, but I’m hoping it’s at least a possibility. If HRC gets the nomination, Obama as running mate is the only thing that can safely secure her election.

Yeah, his answer was basically a long-winded way of saying hell to the naw sans the bluntedness.

You don’t have to tell me; St. Louis is my home town and most of my family still lives there. I hear that shit from them all the time. I’ve done my best to shut them down, but it seems to be a losing battle, sadly.

I really don’t think it hurts him with the AA community at all, so I don’t predict any losses he’ll have to outweigh.

And he just picked up some heavy-duty Latino support in California yesterday, as well.

I doubt it. I can see it hurting her more than helping. I, personally, would lose a lot of respect for Obama if he took Hillary’s VP slot. I don’t think I’m alone in that.
