Japanese post-tsunami cleanup pics at the six-month mark

Ouch!

Photo #4 gives, to me, the perfect idea of what a Tsunami is; look at the islet and cliff on the back, you clearly see how the whole sea has risen at least 10 meters.

I’ve recently been to Japan, and their strive for pulchritude is evident, no wonder they are cleaning up so fast and thoroughly.

We have booked a holiday for later in the spring in this area. We have been doing a lot of charity work for the past year but now it is time to bring ordinary money back in to the area’s economy in an ordinary way. It’s so, so beautiful there. And the original family grave is in the area, so we’ll go and clean that up a bit, too.

Another bump to link to this: a Japanese fishing boat has drifted as far as Canada. Amazing and spooky.

It’s shocking how much damage a tsunami can do. You’d think it’s just a lot of water, it’ll just go back to the ocean and we’ll dry everything off, but the reality is it’s like a giant wall of solid debris that moves like liquid. There is astonishing footage of the tsunami in the Nova about the event ("Japan’s Killer Quake").

The cleanup is unbelievable.
