If this came to trial and I was a judge, I would fine Jason Kelce $1, and warn him that I would fine him a further $1 if he punched the shithead in the face Right Now.
Turns out I was thinking of 30 Rock, but swap Tina Fey for Amy Poehler and the question still stands:
If misgendering is an insult, or claiming that a gay person is straight (“you’re not a lesbian, you just haven’t met a real man”), then the reverse should be just as insulting.
I can’t speak for other straight guys, but back when I was in college 50 years ago, that was the ultimate insult.
Thankfully, times have changed. I don’t really know how straight guys would react today.
You are all analyzing the comments too much. It was a Penn State troll trying to get a rise out of him. The words didn’t matter. He’s lucky that monster didn’t rip him in half.
Last report I saw on X from an insider said ESPN wasn’t going to comment or punish him.
Someone, not sure if it was Kelce or the person who wrote the tweet, said almost exactly that:
I love this.
Jason Kelce just took a stand for normal men against the “idiots who have become way too comfortable saying ridiculous shit to people who can actually kick their ass” crowd.
Good for him.
Yeah, the creep pushed Kelce too. I also noticed the little pissant also kept his hood up, so we couldn’t see his face. I think it was that guy’s lucky day. He was clearly harassing Kelce. That just isn’t ok.
E for clarity.
This thread prompted me to do a little research where I learned that nuisance streamers are a thing. These are people who deliberately act in an offensive manner to provoke some sort of response from others. A dude calling himself Johnny Somali was kicked out of Japan last year for his offensive behavior and more recently he’s gotten his ass kicked in South Korea. Probably pissing off a bunch of people in a country where near 100% of the men have served in the military is a bad idea, but you do you, Somali.
I think just about all of us has known someone who was deliberately offensive because they felt safe from any sort of consequence. Maybe they just counted on you to be polite or knew you wouldn’t break the rules by retaliating. I have mixed feelings about this because I’m generally not a fan of violence being used against someone who just used words. On the other hand, I would fully expect someone who says certain things to get punched in the face for it.
Perfect!
If I were him I’d just buy myself a new phone and slink away. Right now he’s anonymous, if he comes forward to try and get Kelce to buy him a new phone, he’s going to dox himself and become the internet’s most hated person for a few weeks and no one wants to be in that position. On the other hand, given the context of what he said, MAGA might welcome him with open arms and pay him to show up at their events. If he wanted to go that route, today would be the day to do it.
Does “fuck around and find out” only apply situationally and have numerous exceptions? Because I’m thinking it shouldn’t.
BTW, Jason Kelce apologized yesterday on ESPN during the pregame show on Monday Night Football.
After Kelce smashed the phone, he kept it for a bit, and the guy asked for it back. Probably because he knew it would be worth a lot of money now to a collector, due to the incident.
I believe Jason then just dropped it for the guy to pick up. I suspect the guy isn’t really upset about his phone getting smashed; he probably got more than he ever expected from his trolling.
Charges will not be laid.
Why did they even bother with an investigation when they didn’t have a victim?
ETA that’s not meant to be a sarcastic/snotty comment. Was there anything that happened during that interaction that he could have been charged with even if there’s no victim?
Didn’t he smash the guy’s phone?
Would the police investigate a smashed phone with no victim and, (possibly) no evidence? As far as I’m aware, they don’t even know who the guy is.
If there’s a crime and you don’t know some piece of information related to the crime, what do you do?
How much time, money, and effort do you decide to expend on a very minor, unreported crime? This is a huge nothingburger.
Just enough to say investigated and didn’t find a basis to charge, when you get contacted my the national media.
