Java update problem?

Has anyone had trouble after installing Java 6 Update 7?

I allowed Java to update. Okay. Later, I was online and suddenly got a blue screen with an error message. “Kernel” was the only word I could read before the computer restarted. I let it restart, then when I clicked my user icon, it appeared to load correctly, then I got the same error. It restarted itself, then got caught in a loop, but again, gave me an error message too fast to read. I hit escape, which changed the boot order, and my screen came up okay. I did a before the Java update, and so far everything seems okay. As it happens, I’d run a full, 10-hour McAfee virus scan on my laptop Wednesday, so I know it was as clean an McAfee can manage. I have good web hygiene and don’t open much from sources McAfee site advisor doesn’t vet.

So anybody else have trouble with this Java update, or should I seek further remedies? Thanks.

“I did a before the Java update” should read “I did a system restore to a point before the Java update.” Part of the phrase was eaten by invisible voles.

The error is kernel_stack_inpage_error. I’ve now run Checkdisk.

To the best of my knowledge, that error is nothing to do with the Java update. It’s something to do with being unable to read data back from the page (swap) file on the disk, and could be caused by a virus, or potentially hardware failure. I think the first step at this point would be to back up files, before trying anything else.
