They why are you?
It would be a fun night hanging out with them at karoake.
I saw it. It was hilarious. They normally do several bits with different people, this bit was just that couple. Then the couple came on the show and sang with the band. It was pretty awesome.
I mean, the guy wasn’t spectacular, but they were fun and exciting.
It is a bit … suspicious that she had done it before and they are actors, but not outrageous. If they live in the area, they probably shop there frequently. A repeat hit is not stretching the statistical likelihood.
What I like is that they seem so easy going. It made me smile, not many things online make me smile.
This may have been staged. I say ‘may have’ because the article is not quite definitive, but it sounds like Leno’s up to his old tricks again. I resume my full on, unabated hatred of him.
That would piss me off. What made it great was the fact that it was spontaneous.
I’m looking for evidence of staging. Okay, so she’s actually been on a pump cast news segment before. Interesting. The couple are actors who do improv. Interesting.
Still, it’s plausible that the Tonight Show crew had no idea who they were, they are people who live in the area and get gas at that station regularly. The couple are performers so they had fun when they found out what was happening. And they were such fun they got invited onto the show, which probably was their desire. At which point the Tonight Show staff found out they weren’t just a bartender and a fitness instructor.
It’s murky to me, but not enough to make the call. But haters are gonna hate.
If it turns out it wasn’t staged I’ll go back to hating him slightly less again.
Yeah – I can buy that. We do know that Los Angeles has tons of actors and singers, and some of them buy gas in Burbank, just a short hop o’er the hill from Hollywood, right?
Which is more likely? Jay Leno has been doing tons of these interact with regular people bits for years. Jaywalking, going to the apartments and filming movies or videos, Photo Booth, Dare, Winovations, etc ad nauseum. The key to the bits is real people doing stupid or goofy things, or being tricked. But now that NBC has already signed his replacement and is kinda unhappy with him, he decides to pre-script one of his usual gags and hire actors, to fool the audience, and manages to make it funny. He subsequently picks someone who has been on the same bit before. And somehow he manages to act convincingly that it wasn’t a setup.
Or some actor/comedians move from Chicago to LA to break into the industry, live and work in the Burbank area, stop for gas and find themselves in a weird situation, perhaps even recognize the gag, and ham it up, then get invited onto the Tonight Show to guest sing, where they can show off?
I’ve seen no smoking gun, no solid proof of anything. The closest we’re shown is a statement that the TS staff was concerned when they found out the couple were actor wannabes, and instructed them not to mention it on air.
Call me when they have a copy of a signed contract, or the couple admits it was a set up, or some TS staffer leaks a tell-all.
