Jeep people

Specifically those with Jeep Wranglers.

This isn’t a rant, I’m just wondering something.

Ever since my dad had me get a Jeep Wrangler two years ago, I noticed that EVERYBODY who I drove by who was also driving a Wrangler, waved at me. Now, I lived in a small town, so I could have written it off as people knowing me - but I’ve lived in Las Vegas and Washington, and the same thing happens, ALL the time, without fail.

I’m not complaining at all, I rather like it really. I’ve gotten into the habit of waving at fellow Wrangler drivers as well.

So, a question. Do you wave at people who are driving the same kind of car as yourself, or is it just a Jeep thing?

“It’s a Jeep thing.” It’s also a motorcycle thing.

I have a page dedicated to the YJ/TJ Wrangler’s great-grandfather, the Willys CJ2A.

I’ve noticed the Wrangler Wave also when I was driving my sister’s Wrangler for a few months last summer. For someone reason I started doing it too. Don’t do it in my Saturn though.

Hmmm…
I get waved at by people I don’t know on occassion, who aren’t driving a Wrangler…

They most be former drivers and are still in the habit.

Wait a tick. The CJ-7 would be the father, then the CJ-5 would be the grandfather… CJ3B, CJ3A… Okay, the CJ2A would be the great-great-great-grandfather.

A CJ2? It’s Nellie Belle!!!

For a long time, I’ve thought of the Wrangler as the underground Beetle, in that it’s pretty much had the same styling since 1939 when the War Department okayed that contract with Willys.

I drive a “Big Bronco” and I notice a lot of the same thing… Although after having owned two Jeeps, it is definitely more prominent with that brand of truck.

Allow me to…

point you to one of the first threads I ever started.

Definately a motorcycle thing. But when I had a CJ7, I never got the wave.

I live in a part of the country where pretty much every one has a 4x. Don’t know if that has something to do with it.

My first car was a Volvo 122S. This was back in the days when Volvos were a complete novelty.

Every time a Volvo driver passed another Volvo, a mutual honking greeting would result.

Even people standing near or merely sitting in their Volvos would drop everything to return your honk.

So, this is no new-fangled Jeep Wrangler whippersnapper thing at all. I pine for that lost camaraderie of the road.

Christ, am I that old already?

Roy Rogers was before my time, but it was a CJ2A. The CJ2 was a preproduction model and only eight or nine of them have been discovered.

BTW: I wave at Harleys when I’m on my bike. Harley riders don’t wave at Japanese bikes.

Jeeps tend to congregate too, not just the Wranglers. We have a Cherokee, and a typical scenario is: park in parking lot, no other Jeeps around, spend an hour in store, come out and see Jeeps on either side.
